The president of the Hebrew University Prof. Menachem Ben-Shashon said today: "I am proud that several of Israel's research universities are in prominent places in this important international ranking and I am happy that this year too the Hebrew University is being recognized as the leading university in Israel. The fact that the university continues to be ranked so highly is a testament to the hard work of the members of the academic staff and the university community and their uncompromising pursuit of academic excellence."

"In a comprehensive and long-term view, there is no doubt that the Hebrew University is strengthening its international position as a significant and important university. Our ambition is to see the university recognized among the best universities in the world, but this depends a lot on the continued flow of budgets to the higher education system and investment in research universities in Israel and the continued cooperation with research institutions and international bodies."

Technion President Professor Peretz Lavie said today following the publication of the Shanghai Index: "Indices and rankings must be treated with care, especially when a fraction of a point here or there can change the position of a university from year to year. However, the Shanghai index is the leader among the global rankings and there is no doubt that it is very flattering to Israeli science. The fact that three Israeli institutions are included in the list of the top XNUMX universities in the world, while France, Germany, Switzerland, and Canada only have four institutions, indicates the quality of science in Israel and its status in the world. Of course, I am especially happy that the Technion is among the elite institutions in the world in the fields of engineering and science, and especially in computer science. We must avoid harming Israel's research universities at all costs"
