Researchers from Tel Aviv University have developed a serological test to detect corona antibodies and will use it to test IDF soldiers

The serological tests will be tested during a joint study by the Medical Corps and Tel Aviv University in order to study the incidence of corona in the IDF, to identify servicemen who have been exposed to the virus and those who have developed antibodies and possibly even resistance to the virus, as well as to prepare for the next wave of outbreaks.

Prof. Motti Gerlitz and Prof. Ariel Munitz, from the Department of Microbiology and Clinical Immunology at the Faculty of Medicine at Tel Aviv University, today (Thursday) began a study in which tests are performed to detect antibodies and immune resistance against the corona virus among IDF servicemen. The purpose of the tests carried out in collaboration with the Medical Corps is to assess the outbreak rates in the army, to ensure the operational competence of the various units and to help the IDF prepare for the next wave of outbreaks.

Prof. Munitz and Prof. Gerlitz point out that so far the corona tests have mainly focused on the genomic identification of the virus by the RT-PCR reaction carried out using the Matosh. The effectiveness of this test, which takes an average of 5 to 6 hours, is limited and it allows to identify only the patients in a very limited window of time in which the virus is present in the respiratory tract.

Also, the RT-PCR test is considered to be the least effective when considering the morbidity trends in the entire population.

The serological test that Prof. Gerlitz and Prof. Munitz perform as part of the research in the IDF was developed in their research laboratory at Tel Aviv University in cooperation with Israel Beit Hamek Biological Industries. The test is fast, specific and sensitive, and is currently being tested by the American Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in order to obtain approval on their behalf. Based on previous studies, the serological test makes it possible to identify the infected population that does not develop signs of disease (the asymptomatic), as well as the population that has been exposed to the virus in the past.
The test is similar in nature to regular blood tests and you can get a reliable and accurate answer within an hour, which actually doubles the test rate 5 times compared to PCR tests. The test allows an "overview" of the various morbidity trends in the population in general and the IDF in particular. In addition, this test makes it possible to detect the antibodies even many months after the exposure to the virus and the development of the symptoms of the disease.

Prof. Munitz and Prof. Gerlitz emphasize that the research collaboration with the IDF will make it possible to conduct mass tests and receive an indication of those soldiers who have contracted the disease (symptomatic and asymptomatic) and have developed antibodies against the virus, and at the same time, to identify those soldiers who have not yet been infected and may be exposed to the virus In the next wave of eruption.

From the words of the military researcher from the Medical Corps, Lt. Col. Dr. Eric Forer: "This study allows us to examine an important and significant tool in the fight against the Corona epidemic. The antibody tests examined in this study may shed light on the extent of morbidity in the IDF and help prepare the IDF and the Medical Corps for another epidemic wave. The research collaborations with researchers who are at the forefront of scientific activity allow the Medical Corps to be a leading health organization and to examine the use of the most advanced means in order to take care of the well-being and health of the IDF servicemen. In the conclusion of the study, the possibilities of incorporating this type of testing as a routine tool in the fight against Corona will be examined.'

  3. Again the soldiers are used as guinea pigs. They must be wandering, you didn't wander, get a kitchen week.

  4. Why is everything about the soldiers?
Act on the ultra-Orthodox who only donate to Corona
