Israeli researchers led a comprehensive genetic study that determined: the Jewish diaspora has a genetic connection

In a study, led by Technion and Rambam researchers and with the participation of Tel Aviv University and eight states, it was proven: Jews have a common origin - from the Levant

An international team of research scientists from eight countries clarified the genetic structure of the Jewish people at the level of the entire genome. The prestigious scientific journal Nature reveals that researchers from eight countries tested 600 genetic markers and obtained an integrated picture of the genetic structure of the Jewish people, while comparing the descendants of 14 Jewish communities in the Diaspora with 69 non-Jewish populations around the world.

The main author of the article is Dr. Doron Bahar from the Rambam Medical Center in Haifa, working with Prof. Richard Willems from the Estonian Biological Center in Tartu. Other Israeli researchers are Prof. Karl Skortsky and Gendi Yudkovski from the Faculty of Medicine and the Rappaport Research Institute and the Rambam Medical Center in Haifa, Dr. Sahron Rost, Dr. David Gurvitz and Prof. Batsheva Buna-Tamir from Tel Aviv University.

"Today's Jews are made up of a collection of communities whose members around the world identify with each other by virtue of a common religious, historical and cultural tradition," explains Dr. Behar. "Historical evidence suggests a common initial origin in the Middle East, followed by multiple migrations that led to the establishment of Jewish communities in Europe, Africa and Asia - in what is known as Diaspora Judaism. Previous genetic studies showed the sharing of paternal lineages, with multiple founding events for maternal lineages - but did not examine the origin of the Jews at the level of the entire genome and across the broad spectrum of Diaspora Jewry."

An international team of scientists that included researchers from Israel, Estonia, Russia, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Great Britain and the United States completed a comprehensive analysis of more than 600,000 genetic markers, spread over the entire genome, to obtain an integrated picture of the genetic makeup of the Jewish people, comparing The descendants of 14 Jewish communities in the Diaspora, with 69 non-Jewish populations worldwide.

The analysis of the results demonstrated a genetic structure within the populations of the Middle East that had not been described before and which emphasized a Levantine component to which most Jewish communities, and more than 90% of the contemporary Jewish population, show a close genetic affinity. The genetic clustering of the Jewish communities and their overlap with certain Levantine populations is greater than the overlap with the diaspora host populations in the vast majority of cases. These findings are consistent with the common origins in the Levant, a later migration that led to the creation of the Jewish diaspora and different levels of mixing with the non-Jewish populations among the different ethnic groups in the Jewish Diaspora. Thus the genetic evidence, now at the level of the broad genome, is consistent with the accepted historical evidence on the origin and population structure of the Jewish people.

  1. Mm, it's good to add some green leaves to the salad as well, it helps the Platfos for hearing difficulties in Marton to the comet and also helps the facilities for punctures, the Jewish people. .

  3. Skin color is really not the only difference between the Ashkenazim and the Mizrahim... and no matter how many similar genes they find...

  4. Jacob, two comments: a. Even though genetics adjusts itself - two thousand years are not enough for changes on such a level. Put an isolated group of redheads in Africa, and you will find the same group (if it survives) even two thousand years later. B. A genetic comparison is based, among other things (or mainly) on shared faults, and in particular faults that have no practical significance and which allow tracking of common ancestors, not necessarily on adaptations of the genome to the environment.

  5. Regarding what appeared in the report that the Jewish communities are close to the local communities is completely logical since the location changes the genetics over time for example, if a European population group immigrates to Africa and does not mix with the locals their DNA will change and adapt to the conditions of the place, of course it will take time but human genetics adapts itself for survival.

  6. Hey!
I was thinking about the Israeli "negroes".
Is it true that they have an enzyme with a "knee" bend and it's genetic and it's directly related to the molecule for the enzyme in the blood, the biochemistry of the blood and the terribly dark skin color? I found it on google and I can't find it again.
It's as if it has nothing to do with evolution to the same Africa as the sun?
    Same biology, different biochemistry
That is, the medicines for headaches, muscle pain, the intoxicating drugs, the alcohol, the problems, violence, are these side effects? K. B. and T. S. A. Nach K. T
I studied evolution in Haifa not in cell biology.
It is important to me! And intriguing - thanks for the research. Complementary medicine is not.

  7. They omitted from their conclusions some basic data that skewed the entire 'research'. I am a geneticist just as much as they are. I read the data of the report and found many question marks about all the populist conclusions put forward by the researchers:

    1. Looking at the distribution bar of the global genetic distribution, it can be clearly seen that the communities are all close to their non-Jewish environment.

    2. The same kinship between Ashkenazim and Spaniards lies in a natural racial genetic kinship of Mediterraneans with Ashkenazim, and therefore the kinship described in the report.

    3. Those communities that were noted as different are isolated communities that are far from the Mediterranean and European genetic pattern (which we said are close anyway) and therefore the distinct difference between them and the communities of Ashkenazi Jews and Mediterranean Jews.

    4. The genetic closeness of the Diaspora Jews to their diasporas lies in marriages with local women and men, the genes were mixed into a mix which for the most part tends to the regional pattern without any shadow of a doubt.

The hasty conclusions of the report are a harbinger of research that pretends to be scientific and a pity.

Come to my training at the Weizmann Institute, dear researchers, and I will teach you some scientific research etiquette, and above all scientific modesty and honesty.

  8. Anyway Muni, it is not wise to live in a modern country, enjoy its services (eg protection for you) and spit in its face. This can only happen in Israel because the Jews are merciful.

As you can read throughout the site, I strongly criticize the decisions of various parties in the country, but in no way will I support those who call for its illegitimacy. My friends and I are trying to defend Israel in every possible forum in the world when all kinds of evildoers who receive Iranian funding are trying to eliminate its legitimacy. It's a shame that there are also Israelis who think like that, Israel is still a great country and not the center of injustice in the world.

As for the genetic studies, if this is their result, they must be respected. Unlike you, I do not believe that they come to fulfill any agenda except to satisfy scientific curiosity.

  9. Muni, have you ever heard of the Khazar theory? I think you should read about it, who knows, maybe it will still affect you...

The 24 scores do not need justification one way or another and were also willing to compromise on Argentina and Uganda
But what do you have against Ashkenazim or Sephardim or Ethiopians?
In all the Diasporas of Israel they waited with simple and innocent faith for the kibbutz of the postcards that is happening now
This has nothing to do with Ashkenazim and Zionists
There is an expectation and yearning of thousands of years in all the postcards for a return to Zion
And this longing does not need studies to confirm it
It's a shame to talk in a hateful style - you certainly didn't mean to hurt anyone
And I apologize on your behalf for the style

  11. If it wasn't for this return to the land of the Ashkenazim who hate you, I wouldn't have been born and you wouldn't have a website to talk about his talkbacks.

  12. Even the million Moldavians and Ukrainians will find kosher Jewish genetic characteristics to justify the lie
The Ashkenazi Zionist of Hazrat Am Ganti returned to his ancient homeland.

  13. 19- It is the climate of the environment in which one lives that determines the genes that determine skin color. The reason why the inhabitants of Europe are characterized by white color is the cold climate, originally their skin color was pinkish white as an adaptation of the skin to the cold. The reason why Africans are black is the hot climate. This is a genetic process of thousands of years and therefore the color of the Chinese and Africans in America does not change in the meantime

  14. Dr. Shush Israel - the director of the tissue classification laboratory at Hadassah conducted an interesting and comprehensive work with a research group from Hadassah and the NMDP bioinformatics department - about: the relationship and genetic relationship by country of origin in the classification of tissues among donors in the Hadassah bone marrow pool.

Israel as a country that takes in people from the Diaspora points to the close genotypic association of different ethnic groups. In the study, 32 tribes in Israel were divided according to their country of origin, the differentiation of tribes such as: Yemen, Bukhara, Georgia, Cochin-India and their uniqueness - explains the essential need for the development of public reserves for cord blood in Israel, focused on the Jewish people and its neighbors - pay attention to the reality that most operations of bone marrow transplantation in Israel were done for the members of the denominations with the distinctiveness, such as: Amit Kadosh and more.

See a spectacular genome map - the result of Dr. Shush Israel's research on the home page of the 'Public cord blood repository - in your blood, my life' - go to 'Google' and open your eyes!

  15. And now all those knights of world justice will cry that we are not Khazars... that's how it is.

The main thing is that Professor Zand has a best friend and every Arab I talk to truly and sincerely believes that I am a Khazari (although it is more complicated with them, but it is a long story)

  16. BSD
    To 17
Only the men of Ammon and Moab were forbidden to come in the audience
    The women were immediately allowed.
The ban does not stem from political rivalry
These nations were weak and Israel was able to exterminate them,
Although unlike the other peoples of Canaan, we are forbidden to provoke them to war.

  17. For Nathaniel (15):
According to all evidence, we were already scattered hundreds of years before the destruction of Bait Shani (in Jewish and world literature, there are many references to large Jewish communities throughout the Roman world)
In fact, the only evidence to reveal by force is that of Josephus Flavius, who is known to be completely objective, and the numbers he spoke to are also improbable, inconsistent, and usually in other contexts are considered systematically exaggerated.

There is no evidence of skin color change in any group, not among the Chinese who came to America, even after thousands of years after the division, there is a very similar appearance between the Indians and the Asians. Africans who came to America (albeit only for 300 years) mixed with the locals and among themselves their own blood (they came from different groups of Africans) and still they look very similar to their original groups.
"Native" Brazilians are not light-skinned despite the heat and tropical climate similar to the equatorial African climate, and the same is true for equatorial Asians

  18. 15 You are wrong and misleading, change is not made following the environment. But only by genetics. I have yet to see a black person who became white. And you?

  19. Despite the genetics, Judaism is not based on racial origin at all - but on the authentic religion and culture, therefore from the point of view of Judaism, conversion does not make a person and his descendants 'less' or 'more' Jewish. Except for the ancient tradition about the Ammonites and Moabites - "Until ten generations he will not come in the congregation" (probably he will not have a public-leadership role) which apparently stems from rivalry and difficult struggles between these peoples and ancient Israel, and the book of Ruth was probably intended to contradict this trend, and the fact that the book entered the corpus of books The Bible.

  20. 2 I'm just a question, T.Z. Is there blue?

  21. For 11 of course they are Jews, according to religion a Jew who changes his religion still remains a Jew there is no such thing as changing religion.
After the Second Temple was destroyed all the Jews were scattered all over the world because they occupied the Land of Israel even though we returned to the Land of Israel after 2000 years of exile.
A person's color changes when he grows up in a certain climate!

  22. The sample consisted of about 100 subjects, so to draw conclusions from it about the Jews as a whole is very presumptuous and not serious
In any case, the Jews are a mixture of the descendants of the ancient Jews who married in the countries of their diaspora with a local population
Mainly Jewish men who married Gentile wives and converted them
The similarity in genetic inheritance on the male side is higher than on the female side among the Jews, even though according to Halacha Judaism is determined by the mother!!!

  23. It is worth sending (although it is assumed that he has already received) the article to Professor Zand who wrote and rejected the "Jewish connection" as a whole - for him the Jews of Europe are all descendants of the Khazars...

  24. For 10, differentiate between assimilation and conversion. If they are still Jews in the sequence today, then they did not assimilate, the opposite, and there are shades of gray - enough that some converted in the past or women who married non-Jews..

  25. a question:
How is it that there are black, dark and light Jews? Is this a result of confusion? Does that mean most "Jews" are not really Jews?

    Thanks

  26. For 8 don't have little faith. There is no relevance to the language spoken in the different areas, since language is an external influence and not genetic. Perhaps you meant the external difference between Poles and Yemenis (for that matter). Know that external appearance is determined by the fewest genetic markers out of the entire human genome. Most of the genetic differences between people are not at all related to external appearance...

  27. You need to see the study, I don't believe there is a genetic commonality between the Yiddish people, Moroccans from Casablanca, and Yemenites from the Habban tribe

  28. But if you look at table 3 in the original article it seems that the Ashkenazi and Sephardic Jews (for example) are closer to the host populations of Europe and Spain than to the Levant or to all Jews

  29. to Ziv
What is the relationship to the theory of race? That all Japanese have a common root or that all Chinese means
Behind this position is a striving to confirm the theory of race.
Maybe there is a little racist inside of you, who breaks in every time they talk about Jews?
