About 12.8 years ago, a comet fragment caused 10% of the Earth's surface to burn

The sunlight was blocked and as a result the ice age was extended by a thousand years. This is according to a multidisciplinary study

Humans witnessed the enormous fire whose damage was on a similar scale to that caused by the asteroid that destroyed the dinosaurs. One of its side effects was the continuation of the ice age, which was already about to end.

About 12,800 years ago, due to a fragment of a comet, the people who lived then saw how ten percent of the earth's land surface, or about 10 million square kilometers, caught fire. It was towards the end of the Ice Age when the planet began to warm and the glaciers began to retreat. The sky suddenly lit up with fireballs followed by shock waves. Fires broke out across the landscape and dust rose into the sky, obscuring the sunlight. As a result the climate cooled rapidly, plants died, food sources depleted and the glaciers developed again. The currents of the oceans were diverted and this caused a cold period, almost an ice age, for another thousand years.

Finally, when the climate warmed again, humans emerged into a world where there were very few large animals, and human culture in North America left behind completely different hunting tools.

This is according to a comprehensive study of geochemical and isotopic markers published in the Journal of Geology. The findings were so comprehensive that the researchers had to split them into two separate articles, one dealing with the ice cores and glaciers and the other with the sediments in lakes and on land.
Adrien Mellot, a professor of physics and astronomy at the University of Kansas, says the study includes measurements made at over 170 different sites around the world. Malot and his colleagues believe that the data show that the disaster occurred as a result of the collision of a comet fragment with a diameter of 100 km that disintegrated and its fragments are scattered throughout the solar system to this day.

"The theory is that a large fragment of a comet crashed on Earth and caused a disaster," said Melot. "Several different chemical signatures show this - carbon dioxide, nitrates, ammonia and others - all testify to an event that caused the fire of about ten percent of the Earth's land surface or about 10 million square kilometers."

According to Malot, a chemical analysis of ash from the fire shows that the pine trees have almost completely disappeared and have been replaced by poplar, a species known for its spread in empty areas. Indeed, the researchers point to a cosmic impact and it may be responsible for the extinction of the large animals at the end of the Pleistocene era, for reducing the number of humans and changing their culture."

According to him, the computational model shows that the impact of the comet fragment and the fires caused damage to the ozone layer and an increase in the incidence of skin cancer and other negative health effects," said Malot. "Although this is only a hypothesis, the study provides a large amount of evidence that we claim can all be explained only by a large cosmic impact."

Asteroid impacts significantly changed the Earth's surface

The asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs could also have sent rocks full of life from Earth to Mars and Jupiter's moon Europa

  1. Stop making up lies please
The world has existed for a total of 5779 years.
    Before that there was nothing.
everything is the creator of the world,

  2. right. This information is missing and it's a shame. In any case, we are talking about North America and all the burning that allegedly took place there. Therefore, there is probably no important story about a great fire in the ancient myths that have survived from our country.
In any case, according to the original article, all of North America up to Mexico burned and an ancient culture that began to develop in this area became extinct.
However, there is no evidence of such a fragment hitting the ground and there is a hypothesis that such a fragment penetrated the atmosphere and burned upon entry and actually caused the wave of boiling air that ignited all of North America.

  3. There is evidence that something may have happened. There is no evidence as to the nature of this something, as it was.
