The North Magnetic Pole flies quickly from Canada to Siberia, now we understand why

Scientists are convinced of the correctness of the theory, according to which magnetic spots that struggle with each other in the depths of the earth are at the root of the phenomenon

Unlike our geographic north pole, which is fixed in place, the magnetic north pole moves. This fact is known since its first measurement in 1831, following which its slow movement from the Canadian Pole towards Siberia was mapped. However, from the 90s onwards, this slow movement became a kind of race - from a history of migration of 0-15 km per year to a current rate of 50-60 km per year. Credit: N. Gillette

For several years, researchers have been preoccupied with the question of why the magnetic north pole is moving towards Siberia. Unlike our geographic north pole, which is fixed in place, the magnetic north pole moves.

This fact is known since its first measurement in 1831, following which its slow movement from the Canadian Pole towards Siberia was mapped. Among other things, thanks to the "Swarm" satellite mission of the European Space Agency, scientists today are more convinced of the correctness of the theory, according to which magnetic spots struggling with each other deep in the earth are at the root of the phenomenon.

Unlike our geographic north pole, which is fixed in place, the magnetic north pole moves. This fact is known since its first measurement in 1831, following which its slow movement from the Canadian Pole towards Siberia was mapped. However, from the 90s of the 20th century onwards, this slow movement became a kind of race - from a history of migration of 0-15 km per year, to a current rate of 50-60 km per year.

This increase in the rate of migration means that the "global magnetic model" must be updated more frequently, the update is essential, for example, so that we can navigate using our smart phones.

The Earth's magnetic field is produced by a swirling ocean of molten iron, which is the Earth's outer core. Like a rotating conductor in a bicycle dynamo, this moving iron creates electric currents, which in turn generate our magnetic field, which is constantly charged.

Numerical models based on measurements from space, including measurements conducted by the European Space Agency's "Swarm" mission, allowed scientists to draw global maps of the magnetic field. Tracking the changes in the global magnetic field may provide researchers with information about how the iron in the core moves.

The magnetic field and electric currents in and around the Earth produce complex forces that have a huge impact on our day-to-day lives. One can imagine the field as a giant bubble, protecting us from space radiation and charged particles with which solar winds bombard the earth. Credit: ESA/ATG medialab

In 2019, at the European Space Agency's Living Planet conference, scientists from the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom reported that this satellite data showed that the position of the North Magnetic Pole is largely determined by the balance or "tug of war" between two large patches of negative current, at the boundary between the Earth's core and the mantle Under Canada. On May 15, 2020, the team of researchers published their latest findings in the journal Nature Geoscience.

Dr. Phil Livermore (Dr. Phil Livermore) from the University of Leeds said: "By analyzing maps of the magnetic field and its variation over time, we can now point to a change in the flow pattern under Canada that caused the stretching of a patch of magnetic field at the edge of the core, deep inside the Earth . This weakened the Canadian spot and caused the pole to move towards Siberia.

The important question is whether the pole will ever return to Canada or whether it will continue to move south.

Using the satellite information, including the information gathered by the European Space Agency's "Swarm" mission, the researchers concluded that the migration of the North Magnetic Pole originates from the competition between two magnetic spots at the edge of the Earth's outer core. Changes in the flow of molten material in the Earth's core changed the strength of negative magnetic fields above them. The figure shows how the strength of the magnetic spot under Canada has weakened and the shift in the position of the magnetic pole from 1999 to 2019. Credit: P. Livermore

"From the models of the magnetic field inside the core it appears that the north magnetic pole will continue to move towards Siberia, at least in the next few decades. However, given that its position is determined by the delicate balance between the Canadian and Siberian spots, a minimal correction of the field within the core is enough to send the pole back to Canada," explains Dr. Livermore.

  1. Please note the use of an electromagnetic cannon in the Gulf War
First and in the eruption of Pinotubo volcano in a short time, near the Clark base from which they fired. and to the amount of material emitted and the movement of the earth
    following this

  2. Who can explain how the change of the magnetic field affects climate change? After all, all the particles somewhere in the sun or in space in general hit/deflect at another point.

  3. Writing the text twice in a row convinces that the text is correct.
If it had been written 3 times it would have been even easier to understand, you have to consider the reader who understands only the third time, maybe you should enlarge the text and then we will surely understand, we are idiots!

  4. To Michael: The matter was examined in depth and they came to the conclusion that it is a Super Nova (like a Chevrolet Nova but with very strong lights!)

  5. Not exactly twice, not exactly twice.
But we took it into our hearts to avoid photo captions that repeat the text as much as possible, even if it's like that in the original

  6. Why do we need to read everything read everything why do we need to read everything twice twice?
Do you pay us word by word?

  7. The polarity reversal has a profound meaning in the weather and in protecting the Earth and its inhabitants from radiation. To the point of harming life itself. This refers to the time segment when the magnetic field is approximately zero. I wonder if the movement to the north cancels the magneto. I wonder if the shift of the North Pole affects weather and tides.

  8. There is a more logical possibility for what is happening inside the earth, and that is, that in the center of the earth there is a "black hole"
It is the "generator" of the intensity of the energies that erupt there
The magnetic poles are only the symptoms of the activity of the black hole, we actually see the result of its activity, and if we compare the activity of black holes in space then we will definitely see a correlation to what is happening on Earth
I hope that there will be those who might decide to take this theory seriously...I guess that suddenly the picture will become clearer, and then there will also be explanations for other phenomena and the puzzle will work out more "correctly"
