An arctic seagull Sterna paradisaea that drowned as a chick in 1980 on Farna Island (Northern Scotland) was captured and identified these days not far from its birthplace (hatching), meaning that the seagull has reached the age of thirty years.

According to the birders, the captured (and released) seagull was in excellent physical condition. We note that seagulls make the longest known migration route every year from the North Pole to the South Pole and back, a circular route that is about seventy thousand km long, which means that the seagull that was captured has traveled more than two million km to date.

The known length of life for the seagull species is about 15 years, with most deaths occurring due to predation or storms over the sea. In other words, the seagull caught is a world record.
