The head of the scholarship eligibility review committee, Prof. Moti Segev, in a conversation with the Hadaan site: "The goal is to allow people to complete the period of completing a doctorate, which is so important right now here in Israel, and when it becomes possible they will be able to travel abroad even if it is in the middle of the period" * The problem - you also have to spend Calling for donors, because the budget is only enough for five scholarships

The crisis of the corona epidemic piles many difficulties before science in general and before young researchers in particular. Due to the great importance of post-doctoral training for the promotion of scientific research, the Israeli National Academy of Sciences decided to mobilize and establish an immediate emergency program to assist post-doctoral trainees who cannot exercise or complete their research internship abroad due to the Corona crisis. if due to the closing of research laboratories; Stopping research funding and other bureaucratic and personal difficulties. However, in the first stage, a budget was obtained for five scholarships, out of a thousand Israeli postdoctoral students who are abroad at any given moment.

For post-doctorate students who cannot exercise or complete their research internship abroad due to the Corona crisis. if due to the closing of research laboratories; Stopping research funding and other bureaucratic and personal difficulties.
The scholarship is valid for two years, for young Israeli researchers, from all fields of knowledge, to specialize in a post-doctorate at research universities in Israel. The amount of each scholarship will be NIS 150,000 per year. The academy will finance half of the amount, and the host university will give the Malagasy at least the other half, as a matching amount (real matching). The universities are invited to increase the amount of the scholarship so that it significantly exceeds the amount of their standard post-doctoral scholarship, in order to emphasize the excellence of the winners.

Scholarships based on excellence

The Academy issued a call for applications for scholarships and a committee chaired by Academy member Prof. Moti Segev of the Technion will examine the applications. In a conversation with the Hadaen website, Prof. Segev explains: "The intention is to offer scholarships based on excellence in all fields from electrical engineering to poetry to help Israeli doctoral students who are stuck in Israel and cannot go to post doc. The goal is not to help the professor financially, but to allow people to do the post-doctorate period, which is so important right now here in Israel, and when it becomes possible, they will be able to travel abroad, even if it is in the middle of the period, and continue their research there."

"Those who are not good enough to go on a post doc abroad will not be able to receive the scholarship. Not even those who didn't intend to leave in the first place for reasons of convenience or other reasons. Therefore, one of the threshold conditions is a letter from the intended supervisor explaining his need. The institution where the post doctorate will be carried out also has to pay a seriousness fee equal to half of the scholarship (75 thousand NIS). We are not interested in financially supporting Israeli researchers, for that they can compete for budgets at the National Science Foundation. The cost of a post doc in Israel is well known, and we want to financially support this goal." Prof. Segev says.
According to the president of the academy, Prof. Neely Cohen, "the program will train outstanding Israeli researchers and will be a lever for strengthening the scientific research of the State of Israel. It is clear to us that this is a serious plight for many young scientists, and the National Academy of Sciences and the Israeli Young Academy continue to examine ways to help researchers who are at this critical stage of their careers in this complex period."

  1. enough to distribute funds. With all due respect, there are things hotter than a Ph.D. Doesn't justify the money from my pocket going to people who will get on a plane the first chance they get.
