The Pentagon is expected to publish everything it knows about UFOs. Is there anything to look forward to?

Ahead of the submission of the report expected on June 25, a documentary filmmaker released a video of a 'swarm of UFOs' over a US Navy ship in 2019. Former President Obama also stated in a television interview that evidence of the existence of mysterious objects "we cannot explain their behavior"

Update - the report has been published

A strange decision from December 27, 2020 by former President Donald Trump conditioned the approval of the rescue plan from the corona on the fact that the Pentagon will publish within 180 days everything it knows about unidentified flying objects. This period ends today and therefore the report is expected to be submitted to the US Congress. This deadline will end on June 25, but the UFO issue is already flooding the media and social networks.

The committee directed federal agencies to identify potential threats to national security posed by UFOs and to assess the possibility that a rival nation was behind such activities.

In preparation for the delivery of the report, evidence began to be published in which it is claimed that phenomena that have occurred in recent years increase the likelihood of the existence of objects whose behavior is suspicious.

Filmmaker Jeremy Korbel posted a 46-second video on Twitter, in which he wrote that the event was recorded in June 2019 by the Naval Ship Omaha's Combat Information Center off the coast of San Diego. According to him, it is a swarm of unidentified flying objects near the ship that were also observed by pilots in the area. What is special about the event is that for the first time there is multi-sensor evidence that also includes radar observations.

A few days after Obama's interview, a documentary filmmaker released a video describing radar images showing, he claims, a swarm of unidentified flying objects (UFOs) near a Navy ship. Jeremy Korbel posted a 46-second video on Twitter on Thursday, in which he wrote that the incident was recorded in June 2019 by the Combat Information Center of the battleship Omaha off the coast of San Diego.

"They're moving fast... they're turning around," an unidentified man is heard saying. Korbel, the creator of the film "Bob Lazar: Area 51 - Flying Saucers", said that the footage is "verified electro-optical data demonstrating a significant series of UFO events".

It turns out that in recent years the US Navy has collected and published seven incident reports last year, revealing more details about the series of encounters between Navy pilots and "unidentified aerial phenomena".

The Fiscal Year 2021 Intelligence Authorization Act was part of Trump's bailout bill (December 2020) under which the Senate Intelligence Committee ordered the intelligence agencies to submit a report on "unidentified aerial phenomena" within 180 days.

The UFO intelligence report is expected to spark interest after former federal officials hinted that the unclassified report would include unexplained events.

"In the end, when you've exhausted all the 'what if' questions and you're still left with facts in the airspace," Luis Lizondo, former director of the Defense Department's Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program, told the "60 Minutes" program.

What to expect?

It is very difficult to separate the signal from the noise, and so far all we have discovered about the UFO phenomenon has been noise. Let's hope it's not this time, it's impossible to guarantee. Reports of this type have already been published in both the US and the UK, but they did not add any information that would solve the mystery.

There have already been cases where officials said it was a phenomenon originating in space and it turned out to be the work of a secret technology of a unit other than the one that published it (according to the Roswell incident) or of a foreign power. They of course retracted them after the prosaic truth was revealed, which increased the conspiracy theories.

Until now, technologies that performed physically impossible actions were revealed as optical illusions - that is, distant things that, because of the distance, can do normal things nearby that we were deceived into thinking were physically impossible. Now what is new is that we have multi-sensor proof that also includes radar observation and we could know for sure that it is in the range where the phenomena cannot exist.

Governments cannot keep secrets for generations and neither do they have a monopoly on surveillance especially today. Obama's vague stuff could give a clue but again, we'll have to wait.

It is worth noting that there is no doubt that the chance of the existence of aliens on other worlds is not negligible. There is even a legitimate field called astrobiology - the study of the possibility of life in space. The field is broadly divided into two - one is the search for signs that at least indirectly indicate life (water on Mars, oxygen in the atmospheres of planets outside the solar system that are in the habitable zone) - research designed to find life whether it is intelligent or not, and the second part - an attempt to listen to radio waves from space and find there a pattern that originates from intelligent beings.

In 2017, the imagination was ignited by a claim by renowned astrophysicists, including Prof. Avi Leib from Harvard, according to which Omuamoa, an asteroid or comet that arrived outside the solar system and crossed it in a method that, according to Prof. Leib, indicates that it is an artificial object. He estimated that it was an alien spaceship, possibly turned off. This claim is still in dispute and mainstream scientists showed conservatism and said that the object could be an asteroid or a comet.

Even if it is an alien aircraft that violates the laws of physics, most likely what we can do is to update our knowledge of physics, if the observation was accompanied by the discovery of an intelligent radio transmitter from the bone, that is already something else.

If it is indeed an alien tool, most likely it contains intelligence - but artificial intelligence. Yuri Milner's Starshot project, in which Lev is a senior participant, also wants to send such spacecraft, albeit tiny, to the neighboring solar system Proxima Centauri.

In the meantime, apparently the date specified in the delivery of the report was wrong. We will wait patiently.

  1. We know how to build planes that don't show up on radars or other detectors - for at least 40 years.

I guess a species that knows how to fly between stars is no less talented than us….

    Grow up 🙂

  2. The top photo is from a fighter jet's FLIR system. This system has no range measurement capability - and what you see is a distant civilian plane.

The first video looks like a balloon to me.

The green triangles you see are diffraction in the optical system.

  3. Rebbe Maliowitz was once asked (a genius also in physics, ask Professor Bernover, Professor Walwell Green, Professor Silman and many other good ones) He was asked if there is life in space, and he replied that to say that there is not is to belittle the powers of God, but there are no human beings. Because it is written in the Torah that the first Adam was created here. He also mentioned the song of Deborah, in which it was explicitly stated that the war with Sisera was an outside intervention. And this with the words "the light of the inhabitants of Rose". Maroz is one of the stars in Alpha Centauri. The writings there describe that activity from that planet melted the iron wheels of Sisera's chariots.
And if we return to Ed's scholarly response (I loved it!), and rightly refers to the zero percentages of spontaneous abandonment of (even one living cell, let alone) a complete and intelligent organism, wherever it may be in the cosmos - then things are not so far-fetched.

  4. Avi,
In 1896 they said there was nothing to discover in physics - partially true. There were some matters that nevertheless troubled the scientists. In 1900, Lord Calvin gave a lecture under the title "19th century clouds overshadow the dynamic theory of heat and light". He claimed that there were two clouds in the sky of 19th century physics: one - the result of the Michelson-Morley experiment in 1886 and the phenomenon of black body radiation. The meaning of the two "clouds" was understood in the 20th century through the new central theories of relativity and quantum. The important point is that the "clouds" were the result of clear and proven empirical scientific data that were considered according to scientific theories of the time.
This is not the case with UFOs - here the data is, at best, unclear and unproven. In the worst case, to which almost all the "news" drains, these are fantasies, errors and oversights (and these can be given to scientific explanations quite easily), or simply lies (here it is usually the testimonies of individuals about strange "encounters").
As far as I know, the only cases that can be taken seriously are the American cases of the type of Omaha 2019, and even here the possibility of explaining what appears to be an exception - as nothing more than a natural phenomenon or as effects of local technological activity or as a disturbance in the sensing systems - is certainly available. The fact that no one in the American scientific or military establishment has gone out of their way with dramatic regularity certainly speaks volumes.
In any case, there is no valid empirical data here, like those that disturbed the rest of scientists at the end of the 19th century and like those that disturb and tire the minds of scientists today (in physics alone there are over forty weighty questions and problems that require a solution and some of them are definitely "clouds" ).
As for "calculations" and various estimates on threshold conditions and conditions for the possibility of extraterrestrial life - those who support pseudo-theories about developed extraterrestrials, etc. build probabilistic models whose basis is quite questionable. It is typical that as much as their perspective regarding the concept of life is the model of life as we know it on our globe, they ignore the almost zero probabilistic chance of the transition from the basic components the biological cell to one complete biological cell, one that shows stability and is also capable of replicating, and all this in an extremely violent space environment. In the second stage, there is an ignoring of the almost zero chance of transitioning to a real organism, even if it is extremely inferior. In the third stage, the almost zero chance of transitioning to an intelligent organism is ignored. On the other hand, insofar as the perspective is a life model that is not of the known biological type or is not close to it - the problem of the theory is even before the probabilistic challenge, since the problem is a real lack of idea about the nature of such a life model, and therefore a theory about such a life model is not a matter for science, at least At this stage of human intelligence.
So it is true that in the observable cosmos the number of galaxies (let's say - two trillion) and consequently the number of stars (let's say a hundred billion stars in the galaxy, on average) and even more than that the planets (let's say - ten planets per star, and a total of planets of the order of 10 to the power of 24) is really huge - still the chance of the creation of the first biological cell worthy of its name is still dozens (and maybe more) orders of magnitude too small for it to be practical for it to come true within the age range of the universe we know. Not to mention the possibility of the existence of an organism, even an inferior one, let alone a developed and intelligent one.
That's why all this strange discourse about UFOs, at the stage of empirical and scientific knowledge that exists today, has no place in the hostel for science (including popular science), as opposed to fictional "science". On the other hand, there should be more scientific discourse - a fundamental and comprehensive article on the issue of the origin of life, certainly in the probabilistic aspect, it is most needed, even on the stage of popular science like "Hidan". It would be helpful if articles on related issues were published, precisely to banish this strange culture of anoying evidence or fantastic pseudo-science in the postmodern age that is emerging before our eyes, and which marks a kind of gangrene in Western civilization.
And by the way, the matter of science fiction - in itself, the fictional discourse is also not so understandable: let's assume that an extraterrestrial intelligent culture exists, and let's assume that it also exists and passes into the rather minimal period of time (in cosmic terms) in which human culture exists (which is an assumption that in itself is not particularly plausible). The chance that both cultures are more or less equally intelligent, in the tiny current time frame in which intelligent humanity exists - is zero, and it is likely that the gap between the cultures is extremely large. Now, there are two possibilities: either we discover the signal of the alien culture, or it discovers us. At the current stage of our knowledge and abilities - we will not be able to discover the alien culture, but it will be able to discover us. If so - the question arises, what is the chance that such an extraterrestrial culture will indeed discover us and be aware of us, and be able and willing and try to establish some kind of contact with us - beings whose level of intelligence in relation to that external culture is negligible, about the same as ants might be intelligent in relation to a human being? Now - if the extraterrestrial culture discovers us, but chooses not to relate to us, then humanity does not gain anything from dealing with extraterrestrial matters. But if the external culture chooses to relate to us - this whole relationship may actually be quite harmful, and at least such that, bearing in mind the huge difference between the cultures, it cannot be helpful; And so your hope, my father, that "we can learn a lot about ourselves" is simply a false illusion.
I of course repeat my position - science is science. Even if it does not always obey simple rationalism (quanta, for example), it is never in discussion. The fiction should be left out.

  5. Ed. First of all, don't underestimate books and knowledge in general. I wrote one book and saw how difficult it is. Distinguish between observations that claim that there have already been such encounters, and the actual existence of life in space. There are thousands of planets in the milky way orbiting their suns in orbits that allow life (not sure if they have even been realized). This position, and a legitimate hypothesis that an object passing through the solar system might have been the product of alien technology (there is a legitimate debate), should not be illegitimate because there are lunatics opening alien clinics.

In 1896 they said there was nothing more to discover in physics. In the nineties they talked about the end of history. Our knowledge is never complete.

In addition, even if we discover that there are creatures in space and it is not possible to meet them, we will learn a lot about ourselves.

Unfathomable volume? 250 articles out of over 23 thousand?

  6. 250 years after the industrial revolution and we reached the moon, we have astrobiologists, listening to radio waves, telescopes looking for planets. In my eyes, an alien culture that is thousands of years ahead of us will probably be capable of much more....

  7. Belief in UFOs is a religion for many atheists, those who are unable not to believe in something, or for superficial and compulsive rationalists when science lies and is unable to provide an immediate answer to the question. In other cases this belief is a fantasy for imagination enthusiasts and in the discussion of the degree of mental disorder.
This religion is often accompanied by the belief in panspermia. The devout believers also obsessively invest a great deal of interest in knowledge and attempts to find planets that, in their opinion, are candidates for sustaining "life".
Of course, all of this is perfectly fine from a democratic point of view - there is freedom of opinion and speech, and the general press is full of all this, precisely because it is not scientific and the news presented in it does not contain a trace of pure scientific considerations with probability calculations that probably put all these fantasies in a very dubious light. This newspaper also enjoys quoting the charlatan scientist on duty who advocates this bullshit to be famous for a moment, or the one who is interested in budgets for space missions and repeatedly leverages these beliefs, or the one who publishes a book on the subject and is interested in maximizing revenues (Prof. Leib, did we say?). But the strangest thing is to meet all these beliefs in the scientific press (and popular science newspapers in general), and sometimes in an unimaginable volume compared to real scientific information. Too bad.

  8. At a very young age I saw Star Wars and since then I have been waiting for some creature to land here and make us all think a little differently. In those days I used to read relevant literature (one of the best in my opinion was by Robert Heinlein - The Space Cadets) and this also added fuel to the fire that didn't need it.
Later (not long ago) I asked myself what the probability is that there is intelligent life outside our borders and I really had no way to calculate it since we are here due to a (quite long) sequence of events that if we subtracted one of its components we would not be here.
Therefore, I decided to calculate it in a different, more primitive way - and I came to bleak (not to mention embarrassing) insights and the bottom line - we are alone.
If we are not alone - then inevitably there is a (significant) inaccuracy regarding the big bang - and this means: if there was a big bang it could not have happened 13.8 billion years ago but more like 13 million million million... years.

Maybe sometime in the future I will organize these calculations into something that can be read and publish it (I have to admit that I don't really feel comfortable with this because I'm not really a professional in the field. I'm a BA programmer who spends his days developing some kind of software.)

  9. Once the announcement that there is life or things we don't know would excite me like crazy, but today it's just kind of obvious, and absolutely nothing changes...

    Waiting for E.T.

  10. An article full of errors especially with regard to Roswell and a direct continuation of worthless quotes from Wikipedia and the press, while ignoring all the scientific information accumulated over decades of studying the phenomenon.

  11. Nadav, read or go to the videos before me you speak.
The hype surrounding the current event stems from the fact that these objects perform impossible actions with the technology of
Today or 50 years from now.
These objects break the speed of sound without a supersonic boom, turn in impossible G's and dive into the water!
All this while the radars detect them and pilots and crew members see it with their own eyes.
It is no longer a trivial matter.
And I'm not a follower of conspiracies of any kind...
