Professor John Kappler and Prof. Philippa Marak from the National Jewish Center for Medicine and Research, Colorado, USA, and Professor Jeffrey Rabach from Rockefeller University, USA won the 2015 Wolf Prize in the Medicine category, for breakthroughs in understanding the molecular mechanisms of the immune response .

Reasons of the award committee: "The award in medicine for 2015 was given to three immunologists: John Kappler, Filipa Marak and Jeffrey Rabach. All three made a major contribution to the understanding of the response to antigens, to a thorough understanding of the receptor response of T cells and of antibodies to antigens and how these molecules participate in the processes The recognition and action of the immune system. "

"In their joint work, Kappler and Marak deciphered the mechanism by which the T-cell receptor recognizes the antigen, unlike B cells, while identifying the characteristics of this receptor, and making brilliant use of monoclonal antibodies. Ravach characterized the variety of Fc type receptors that are part of the antibody molecules, cloned many of them and identified their central role in the activity of the antibodies in normal and pathological conditions. Together, the three researchers contributed to the understanding of the molecular basis of the immune response in the healthy body and in disease states."
