Comprehensive coverage

What will come before why? Extinction of species or exploitation of their genetic knowledge?

Animals that have developed abilities that humans do not have can teach us about dealing with certain diseases, but we are not enough to learn this knowledge, because the species are extinct

Sustaining Life is the name of a book that is being published in preparation for a global summit on the topic: "Loss of biological species". The goal of the summit is to find ways to stop the disappearance of biological species by 2010.

The book, edited by about 100 researchers, indicates the enormous loss to humanity as a result of the loss of species. Species disappear from the map before researchers have a chance to get to know them and examine the possibilities inherent in them, possibilities for developing food sources, and medicines. The loss of any single species is the loss of a whole world of information that cannot be recovered, information whose value to humanity cannot be estimated or measured. Destruction of biological species on the scale of mass extinction is a frightening fact in itself, when as a result of the extinction, damages are caused directly to the human population. When the damages can be estimated, the extinction is doubly frightening.

Several examples of extinct species and with them the benefit to humanity. In Australia there was a frog that was first described in 1973
Uniqueness of the "mother" frog. Rheobatrachus silus. This frog raised her offspring in her stomach. Preliminary studies showed that the offspring are coated with a substance that protects them from the digestive juices. It is possible that the continuation of the research would have enabled finding cures and solutions for stomach ulcers and many other medical problems, but the frog was exterminated / disappeared... last seen in 1981. The frog disappeared and with it the medical secrets.

Bears still live in our environment. Researching the hibernation habits of bears can provide answers to many problems, for example: researchers are testing how the bears manage to maintain bone density during hibernation, finding the solution can advance treatment for osteoporosis and other bone diseases, but the bears are also in danger of extinction and it is doubtful what will happen first, finding solutions or The extinction of the bears.

At a conference prior to the publication of the book, Yehoyachin Steiner, director of environmental planning at the UN Environment Program's (Unep), said that "human society depends on nature, among other things, for the treatment of diseases, animal and plant products have always formed the basis of the health system", "the UN Charter For biological diversity, the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has achieved many achievements, but in order to achieve goals presented by the global community, the organization must achieve much more", Steiner went on to say that a breakthrough must be reached that will stabilize the three pillars of the conference (to be held in Bonn, Germany), Preservation of the environment and nature, sustainable use, free access to the use of genetic information sources". So much for Steiner's words.
The authors of the book hope that the facts stated in it will emphasize the need to preserve the species.

  1. green,

On the one hand, you say that human life is sacred. On the other hand, you are tempted to kill all human beings on earth. There is a contradiction here that I suggest you think about carefully.

I agree with you about all the sick evils we do, but I am more optimistic and believe that this is the maturation phase of humanity. things will get better. Humanity will find more pleasant ways to coexist with the environment.

Hoping we get to that day soon,

    Roy.

  2. God forbid, I wouldn't go that far,
Human life, at least for me, is sacred.

Yesterday I was in a refresher driving course, suddenly such a big beetle entered the class, and the people started shouting, the beetle stopped next to the teacher on the floor,
So some told him that he would step on her, so he said: Step on her? (through) and after that he even said it was crispy.. a beetle is a beetle it's not a baby I know,
But the beetle also has a role in the ecosystem, that doesn't mean it's okay to start killing quantities of certain animals because that's how humans feel..
In any case, I didn't have time to get up to take her out..

But I'm just here to point out that we are all animals, and that doesn't give us any excessive privileges regarding what we can do with all the other animals in the world,
Including: experiments, slaughtering in huge huge commercial quantities, even hunting for fun.. and many other things..

The world is no longer made up of small villages that butcher here and there a sheep, a cow, a chicken or even every day.. It itself will become what is called a "global village" with 7 billion people or something like that and a consumption culture that helps this enormous consumption not stop and even grow, I even read an article here about Shrimps that won't be around in another 50 years if the demand stays the same..
injecting substances into chickens and cows and cattle that will have a greater output,

What kind of shape is this world to be I ask..
What is so sublime about humanity now?

    I'm not saying it's forbidden, I'm saying it's excessive..
There are too many people on earth and the outlook is not good!!!

Who are we to control animals like this? And that species become extinct? And that we invent substances that will suffocate and destroy the earth and cause it irreversible damage????????

Perhaps you have already deduced from my words, that I am not so enthusiastic about contributing to humanity, of course I would be happy in a short time if they found a cure for cancer and AIDS, etc.

In Long - I still think that the human race has a self-destruction mechanism, for all animals and the earth and finally for humanity as well,
I simply think that humanity does not deserve anything from nature after what humanity gives to nature is only bad and bad and bad and bad. (X is almost infinite)

And who knows, maybe if I had a button to kill only all humans on Earth,
    Maybe I would click..

You know anyway they say that in World War 3 they will fight with sticks and stones.

    So who did we name?

  3. green,

As you said, the ecosystem is very important, and that's why I support the preservation of flora and fauna on Earth. I only object to Gil's statement that the only use of flora and fauna is to 'look pretty'.

As for the rest of your words, I am also against useless experiments on animals (although I support most of the experiments done today, and believe that the useless experiments are a tiny minority).

I think the disagreement between us is revealed in one critical point, and I quote, "Human life is not something that is far from heaven and earth from the life of any other animal."

Would you agree to kill a human baby, in order to save a mouse? Because this is the full meaning of the sentence you wrote.

    Thanks for the proofreading.

    Roy.

  4. And by the way, no sarcasm, just a little proofreading..

"Information that you value to humanity cannot be assumed (not for the rest) and measured."

    And to speculate then:
"Information of your value to humanity cannot be guessed or (nor f) measured."

  5. Have you ever heard of a concept called ecology???!!!

Do you know what is the role of all the animals in the ecosystem on earth???!!!

I didn't expect to see such comments here.

And Roy Cezana, if you ask me,
Human life is not something that is far from the life of any other animal,
And personally I agree with experiments being necessary on animals,

But not in order for L'Oréal Paris to release a new mascara, so they have to inject the substance into the eyes of rabbits to know what it can cause..

And not in many, many, many, many other cases.

Who are we anyway? only animals

Humans are a kind of animals.

The difference is that we are much more intelligent and mentally developed and aware of ourselves and the environment, we have a tremendous communication ability between us and we have the ability to "devour all the animals in the kingdom" and make tools and build buildings, etc., etc.

This does not turn us away from God, I am against the unnecessary killing of animals in all its forms, for the purposes of clothing, wheat, fish that should not be caught in a net in huge quantities, other marine species that are caught in nets that should not be caught, and more..)

    And the list doesn't end.

You could write a book about the thickness of the Bible about how harmful it is for man to live in the world,
    and the environment.
As long as humans are on Earth,
The earth will continue the process of self-destruction.

Geology and ecology are intertwined and are an inseparable part of the world.

  6. age
Exploitation of species for the benefit of man is not their extinction - on the contrary.
The most talked about exploitation is all kinds of compounds produced by animals and which may have a benefit - for example medicines. In such cases the creatures will actually be nurtured and multiplied.
Humans use them for food and they, on the contrary, become extinct.

  7. Regarding the permanent disappearance of the species...
    What about genetic replication?
Even if the phenomenon cannot be stopped, how do you maintain the other features...

  8. Nature lovers / greens are convinced of the need to preserve a natural environment,
they don't need to be convinced,
It has long been clear and known to everyone who deals with the issue that the strongest factor, the charged
The most influential is the economic charge,
    Everyone understands the economic charge,
(See my previous lists that refer to the economic viability of nature conservation)
That's why this argument has been made for a long time in every debate
And it turns out that he wins!

  9. age,

Beauty is a thing... beautiful. that's it. But as much as I appreciate the noble beauty of tigers, I would sacrifice them without hesitation for the good of man. Beauty is a beautiful thing, but human life is an important thing.

At the same time, I absolutely agree with Dr. Rosenthal's words. The human race must be careful in its steps, and avoid the wanton destruction of the species existing on the planet. Both due to the beauty inherent in them (as marginal as this argument is) and also due to the benefit that the information contained in them can bring us.

    Thanks for the article.

  10. This thinking of exploiting the species for their benefit to humanity is really shocking.
The mass extinction is the result of the exploitation of the environment and the species for the sake of humanity.
Their real benefit is in the variety of beauty in the environment
And not in a petri dish
