NASA photographed the asteroid passing by the Earth today at a safe distance

The asteroid 2005 YU55, which is about 400 meters in diameter, will approach tonight to a distance slightly less than the lunar orbit. No danger is expected, not even an indirect effect

NASA's Deep Space Network Antenna in Goldstone, California, captured the radar images of asteroid 2005 YU55. The asteroid will pass the Earth at a safe distance, slightly less than the distance of the Moon from the Earth at the closest point of its approach (the asteroid's approach), tonight (November 9) at 01:28.
The last time an object of this size came close to Earth was in 1976, although astronomers did not know about this approach in real time. The next approach of an asteroid of similar size is expected in 2028.
The image was taken on Monday, November 7 at 11:45 a.m. West Coast Time, or 21:45 p.m. Israel Time when the asteroid was 1.38 kilometers from Earth.
As mentioned, the closest distance the asteroid will reach will be 324,600 kilometers, or about 0.85 times the distance from the Earth to the Moon. The gravitational effect of the asteroid will not be felt at all on Earth, including on the tides and the tectonic plates. Because the asteroid's orbit brings it close to Earth, Venus and Mars, today's approach to Earth is the closest to any of the three planets in the last 200 years.
The diameter of the asteroid is about 400 meters. Its shape is spherical and it also seems to spin slowly around its axis, for 18 hours, and its surface is dark as coal in the optical measurements.
NASA discovered, tracked and characterized the asteroids and comets approaching the Earth using ground and space telescopes. The Near-Earth Object Observation Program at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, known as the Space Watch, discovered the objects, characterized some of them, and plotted their trajectories to determine if any of them could potentially endanger Earth.

  1. The surest way to check if two lights on a dark road coming in front of you are two motorcycles or a truck is to pass in the middle.

Confidential 5, how much money are you willing to bet that this asteroid (2005 YU55) will not return to Earth's region?

  2. Are you sure it's okay to get out of the bancoker? It is not possible that he will make a turn and come back to hit the city after all? I'm scared…*

*Please read in the appropriate sarcastic tone.

  3. On the one hand, it's nice to have new readers on the site, even if they are people who usually only read sports sections. On the other hand, what doozies...

  4. Confidential 5, how do we know that this route is the exact route?
    I hope NASA is right

  5. Abby, you actually don't know where the asteroid will pass and will it hit us? (Or I didn't understand in what context you say you have no idea)
    This is really worrying…

  6. Regarding the orbit of the asteroid - how can we know that it is indeed the orbit (besides the fact that NASA published it)? The asteroid was only discovered in April 2010…
From the way it looks, from the link with the orbit of the asteroid it doesn't seem to be close enough to "touch the atmosphere".

  7. I don't understand why they don't send some kind of satellite or tracking system and attach it to this asteroid
Take him to deep space, who knows what will be seen there.
    ?

  8. For one more secret - the comments there are not so happy... I just hope that the "Hidan" site is right, because according to Mako the asteroid was discovered in April 2010, how can we know that we are safe?

  9. Yes, I also saw Mako's article, but they are just pressuring people just to attract an audience
But apart from that, I want to know if a telescope will be needed if you can even see it from Israel?

  10. Hahaha from copying them 🙂
In my opinion it will be possible to see him, I really hope that he is really at a safe distance from us and is not going to "kiss the atmosphere" as some articles on news sites say.

  11. Will it be possible to see the asteroid from Israel? And if so, what time should you go out to watch?

  12. Aryeh Seter, only in this article it is explicitly written that there is no reason to fear. In articles on news websites they write that "NASA is trying to reassure and says that there is no chance of an impact, but this is an asteroid that is going to "hit" the atmosphere" (or are the news websites and the well-known among them Mako, just exaggerating to attract readers as they always do?)

  13. Confidential - don't worry. It is explicitly written in the article that there is no reason to fear. The orbit of the asteroid that is calculated takes into account the pull of the earth and with this pull - it will pass at a minimum distance of about 325 thousand km from us.

  14. In any case - is there a reason to be afraid? It's not every day you hear about a fairly large asteroid approaching the Earth at such a close distance...

  15. Absolutely not, if NASA says that the closest is almost as far as the moon, you have to believe them. They even added a sentence about plate tectonics and tides to conjure up all kinds of nonsense circulating on the conspiracy sites.

  16. If it passes really close to the Earth (it was said to pass a little closer than the distance from the Moon), the Earth should pull it towards it, right?
Anyway, tonight, when he gets very close, will he be a danger to Earth?
