The NanoPass company has developed a disposable device based on microneedles for the release of effective, reliable and almost painless healing substances intradermally. This is how Dr. Yotam Levin, CEO of Nanops, described it.
Another type of device, known as "NanoCare", is used as a personal and hand-held device for home use specially designed for the aesthetic industry. The device uses micro-pyramid technology to gently remove the top layer of skin to reveal young, fresh skin with an even tone, and encourages the absorption of creams through the outer layers of the skin.
The company has performed many clinical trials in order to demonstrate the safety, applicability and effectiveness of a special injection technology (MicronJet) that uses these microneedles to deliver vaccines and other healing substances such as insulin and lidocaine to the body.
The micro-needles are produced using micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS = Micro Electro Mechanical Systems) technology and consist of pure silicon crystals. This technology enables the preparation of miniaturized devices with unprecedented mechanical stability and structural precision. The miniaturized needle arrays, called Nanops micro-pyramid, are manufactured in industrial clean rooms using extremely precise manufacturing processes. Based on its microneedle technology, the company now manufactures hollow microneedles for intradermal injections of drugs and solid cosmetic materials, such as creams and ointments.
The method of intradermal vaccine injection has been repeatedly demonstrated to allow particularly economical introduction of healing agents compared to other methods of introduction such as intramuscular and subcutaneous. This result originates from the relatively dense network of immune cells found in the skin. The micro-needle systems have two important advantages: the first being that they are non-intimidating - the devices, which are almost invisible to the naked eye, are ideal for children and patients who are afraid of needles. Second, the ability to use them to inject viscous substances - despite their tiny size, the mechanical properties of the microneedles allow them to also inject extremely viscous substances, including gelatinous substances.
