Yitzhak Nissan, CEO of Israel Aerospace Industries (TAI) and Prof. Peretz Lavi, President of the Technion, signed last week a multi-year cooperation agreement to carry out research at the Technion on autonomous systems. According to the agreement, the TAA will invest about one million dollars in research at the Technion in the next five years as part of the interdisciplinary program for autonomous systems TASP
(The Technion Autonomous Systems Program.

The vision of the program at the Technion is to establish the leading center in Israel in the field of autonomous systems, and to make it one of the top five in the world. The pillars of the research of modern autonomous systems are the development of advanced applications, the creation of knowledge and the use of advanced research methods.
The TAA intends to apply the results of the research in various systems produced by it such as unmanned platforms - aircraft, vehicles and vessels, as well as in machines and production processes and in assisting the operators of "super-systems" in processing data from sensors.

Yitzhak Nissen, CEO of the TAA said at the signing of the agreement: "The cooperation between the TAA and the Technion will benefit both parties. This is a good model for collaboration between industry and academia. Together we will be able to advance the field of autonomous systems in new and interesting directions and benefit from experience and capabilities acquired by each of the parties during the years of activity in the field."

The president of the Technion, Professor Peretz Lavi said: "The long-standing relationship between the Technion and the aviation industry is once again reflected today, in the significant grant that the Technion researchers will receive. We are confident that the aerospace industry, many of whose employees are our graduates, will enjoy the fruits of its investment in the interdisciplinary program for autonomous systems that was recently established at the Technion."

The head of the program, research professor Daniel Weiss, said that the participation of the aerospace industry is a very positive step in promoting the issue and reflects the trust in the quality of the Technion's researchers: "We hope to fulfill the expectations of us and even beyond."
