Innovation: hybrid technology in the yacht industry

The yachts become green for the environment and save energy consumption costs for their owners, the price is still sky high and not suitable for the small citizen, but at least the capitalists are saving in these troubled days

The Island Pilot company from Miami, Florida promised to assemble the first "green" yacht in America and now it seems that its ambitious mission is complete. DSe Hybrid is supposed to be the most economical yacht on the market, and the most environmentally friendly, all because of the incredible efficiency of its engines.

The company's engineers had to overcome many obstacles and redesign many components of the ship. But the biggest contribution to efficiency comes from the company's ability to combine diesel energy, solar energy and electric energy. Hence the origin of the name of the ship DSe (abbreviation of Diesel Solar Electric).

The ship's engine is driven by electricity produced by the solar panels. At night or when the amount of sunlight is insufficient, the ship consumes energy from batteries that stored energy during the day. When the batteries are depleted, the diesel engine that powers the ship is turned on and at the same time charges the batteries.

According to the company, sailing in the yacht is quiet about the electric motors. A speed exceeding 6 knots requires the operation of the diesel engines and the engine can be heard as the speed climbs towards 13 knots. It should be noted that cruising at a speed of up to 6 knots does not emit pollutants into the air about the electric motors that use solar energy.

The DSe Hybrid is a pleasure boat and is equipped accordingly: leather sofas, LCD screens, high quality satellite dish, home theater system, advanced refrigerator that produces ice, advanced radar, autopilot system and more. The rooms are spacious and contain everything required for a long-term cruise. The captain in the deck room enjoys a wide viewing angle of 270 degrees. More affluent customers can upgrade all ship components.

The idea may sound fundamentally far-fetched, and perhaps a bit delusional, but there is economic logic behind the initiative, especially these days when energy prices take part in the decision-making process of the economic elite. The companies in the industry are constantly looking for their advantage over the competitors and it seems that this time the Island Pilot company has found a trump card that gives it advantages over competitors, presents an environmentally friendly product and saves money for customers. The first ships will be available in spring 2009.

The innovative development can be a catalyst for the maritime transport industry to switch to energy-saving engines. This industry generates hundreds of billions of dollars every year, and if there is a demand for the new product, we will have a series of new developments in the coming years that can push companies to replace their old ship fleets with cost-effective solar ships that do not emit pollutants into the air.

  1. When will the prices for solar cells be reduced? A large cell producing 64w costs about 2300 NIS, which is completely outrageous, especially due to the relative simplicity of production and the technology that has been around for decades. Another thing (and maybe also annoying) is that the utilization of the cells is about 11% to 12%. The goal is to reach a utilization of up to 14% by 2012, which in itself does not seem a particularly ambitious goal.

  2. Wait, what about using the most 'ancient' and known energy - using wind energy?
    M y p r s h i m !!!!!

  3. Just a gimmick for the rich who want to paint themselves green
Those who will buy them are those hypocritical millionaires who own the most polluting businesses

For everyone who has the money to buy such a car
He sure has enough money for gas
In total, the entire place for sunbathing and corruption parties is occupied by sticky green shit

  4. How many millions of shekels do you get for an article? Or does it even go by the amount of words.

  5. Writing on the Hidan site pays off and Rami Yushobiev is already starting to get interested in buying a yacht.

  6. If they really wanted to make everything greener, they should have made gas chambers in the yachts 🙂

  7. GM food is primarily sold to the poor.
Medicines are mainly sold 🙂 to patients.
Robots are sold mainly to industry.
In short - there are more ways to introduce technologies.
The best way depends on the nature of the technology.

  8. There are two ways to introduce new technology to the market, and correct me if I'm wrong,
One - military use, technologies that are developed directly for the military that is willing to pay for developments that the enemy does not have and puts it forward, then the technologies are released to the public.
The second - the rich, the rich wants innovations, he already has everything and he wants what's newer, he has enough money to absorb failures (which your people don't have), then the experience we learn makes it possible to sell the product to your people (the rich have already moved on to the next product).

Among the technologies that passed through the hands of these two are: the bicycle, the car, the computer, the Internet, the radio and more.

  9. About => Thanks (twice).
One could hope that on this occasion they would try to do something with the energy of the waves as well, but it may have been considered and turned out to be problematic in terms of the awkwardness it would add to the yacht.
