horrible fever

July 2019 was probably the hottest month ever. When oysters are roasted in their shells, birds flee to the peaks and dangerous diseases spread rapidly, is there still a chance to fight the climate crisis?

If you enjoyed, as we did, the last Women's World Cup, you probably noticed the less common sight of self-initiated cooling down breaks during the game with the players mostly drinking water and covering themselves with ice towels. Physical exertion during a heat wave like the one experienced by Europe - a record of 45.9 degrees in France, the host of the World Cup (recorded at the end of June) - could be life-threatening even for great and strong athletes like Megan Rapinoe.

2018 ranked fourth in average historical heat and created a streak of the four hottest years ever measured. 2019 will probably become the fifth in this sequence: Gavin Schmidt, director of the Goddard Institute for Space Studies at NASA tweeted that the chance of this is 99.9 percent.

Heat records were broken not only in Europe and led to huge fires in Spain, and as happened in previous heat waves, an increase in the number of deaths across the continent is expected as a result of the severe heat. June 2019, for example, was the hottest month since regular measurements began. The global average was 15.5 degrees, 0.95 degrees higher than the average throughout the 20th century, while in the normally cold regions (such as Russia and Alaska) the average temperature increased by almost 3 degrees. The highest jump was recorded in Ballert in Canada, the northernmost permanent settlement on Earth: instead of 6-3 degrees on a normal day, the thermometer climbed to 21 degrees.

NOAA, the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, reported a series of new heat records: July is the 414th consecutive month in which the global temperature exceeded the average, with nine of the ten hottest Junes occurring since 2010.

At the end of 2018, the UN's International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) published a special report on the progress of the Paris Agreement to prevent the climate crisis. According to the review of the findings, an increase of 1.5 degrees above the level before the industrial age - the low goal of the agreement - will be realized between the years 2052-2030. This means that the "optimistic" scenario is to reduce emissions so as not to cross the upper threshold of the agreement - an increase of 2 degrees in the second half of the century. For an increase of 4 degrees, as presented by the World Bank in a report called "Turn down the fire", the human race will probably find it very difficult to adapt and the biggest victims will be island countries and poor countries that will have difficulty dealing with the difficult conditions and providing food and water to their residents.

Birds, fish, oysters and bacteria

A team of researchers who used a model that examined in real time the heat waves in France during June, claims that the heat waves are becoming more frequent, at least five times, and hotter because of the climate crisis. In combination with other factors, such as the aging of the population, their effect on humans will be more deadly. Another study reaches a similar conclusion: heat is the weather variable that is responsible for the highest number of deaths in the US and the characteristics of construction in cities only worsen the phenomenon. The urban heat islands maintain high temperatures even after sunset and it turns out that high temperatures even at night make it difficult for the body to recover and may increase the risks of injury and even death in heat sensitive populations.

The consequences of the climate crisis also throw natural ecosystems out of balance. Thus, for example, researchers who followed birds in the mountains of Peru witnessed the disappearance of species and the reduction of populations and called the phenomenon the "escalator to extinction" because the birds ascend with the warming to habitats higher up the mountain, until at some point there is nowhere left for them to ascend.

The situation in the oceans is no less bad: the increase in the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, which causes an increase in temperatures on land and sea water, is also responsible for changing the chemical composition of sea water, when carbon dioxide is dissolved in it, the acidity level of the sea water increases (pH decreases). This combination reduces the reproductive success of two species of cod fish, also known as cod (Atlantic cod and Polar cod), two of the richest fish in the North Atlantic Ocean, to the point of their disappearance in the second half of the century (in the realization of the severe scenario of continued greenhouse gas emissions Representative Concentration Pathway (RCP) 8.5). In the 90s of the 20th century, the cod fishery on the shores of Newfoundland had completely collapsed and with it the fishing industry in northeastern Canada and part of that of the USA collapsed, tens of thousands of workers lost their jobs and a sector that generated hundreds of millions was almost wiped out for 30 years. Just when this industry shows signs of recovery, the scenario can repeat itself.

Like humans, the inhabitants of the water also suffer from the oppressive heat waves. In the Bodega Bay Nature Reserve in California, thousands of oysters died in their shells due to the heat wave in the area at the end of June, and in a survey conducted by the marine laboratory researchers there, an average of 30 percent mortality was measured (with a range of 70-5 percent mortality), whereas in a previous event in 2004, only 10 percent mortality was measured. This event will pale in comparison to what was expected: according to the UN report, the coral reefs, the ecosystem with the greatest biological diversity in the sea, will be severely damaged and disappear (over 99 percent of the reefs) from most of the areas where reefs are common today, this is when an increase of 2 degrees Celsius in the average sea water temperature. With an increase of 1.5 degrees Celsius, between 90-70 percent of the reefs are expected to be severely damaged and cease to exist.

The June-July heat does not only cause discomfort, it is evidence of a series of risks to health, the economy and society. Following the rise in water temperature, a particularly virulent bacteria that causes over 50 percent mortality due to its consumption through seafood and over 25 percent mortality due to contact through skin wounds due to recreational activities at sea, has shown a greater presence in recent years. As a result, and in harmony with global warming, the frequency of mortality events increases.

unabated

"Even with the current commitments of the countries of the world to the Paris Agreement, the expected increase is 2.7 degrees, which is dangerous, so these commitments must be strengthened and anchored in legislation and concrete policies," says Dr. Michal Nachmani, climate change policy researcher at LSE. "Measures such as changing the energy mix and improving energy efficiency, banning vehicles powered by an internal combustion engine, switching to sustainable agriculture, etc. should be implemented." Nachmani believes that two factors are already contributing to the acceleration of the process: "The private market is moving towards a low-carbon economy because it recognizes the risk to its very businesses and investments and this is a signal to the other sectors. Second, the public, mainly in Western countries, is pushing the politicians to take more serious steps, such as the British commitment to zero emissions by 2050. We are currently moving in the right direction, but much slower than necessary."

There is probably no panacea in this matter. There is no single move that will allow the human race to continue to survive in reasonable well-being for future generations, but a combination of many steps and accelerating them in the right direction can improve the situation. Israel, meanwhile, is dragging its feet in the field, even though it is not profitable for it in several respects.

"Reducing emissions is desirable for Israel at the level of international relations," says Nachmani, "small players from Israel recognize their part in the global picture and are mobilizing for the effort. Moreover, each such step helps to solve other problems: reducing air pollution, protecting coastal infrastructure, reducing the cost of energy production and dependence on single sources of gas and coal."

"Significant adaptation measures are necessary because extreme events - fires, floods, etc. - are bound to occur in Israel, which is exposed to many risks due to its location and climate regime, starting with mosquito bites and ending with a dramatic increase in morbidity. The climate crisis will intensify security risks, therefore the adoption of a systemic approach and the application of mitigation and adaptation measures are imperatives of reality", concludes Nachmani.

  1. We, we, please go.

Read the comment again - carefully - and repeat yourself.
If you don't know the history, ask some Franz to refresh your memory.

And they threaten us with nothing.
And next to them, as always, are the Europeans

  2. Israel Shapira
Right, just like I mentioned: Afro-Eskimo. There are also penguins in Africa. Maybe also in Silesia..

    Bibi is excellent.
He is an excellent example of a first-rate leader like Begin and even Ben-Gurion...
If people of the same material that a leader like Bibi is made of had not done what they did, you would not have the State of Israel today...
Oh, right, I forgot, your country isn't Israel anyway... so why do you care about dirtying it... Gutnacht

  3. We, the answer is 3. The animal is a penguin that lives in Antarctica, and the hunter left from a point a kilometer north of a circle with a circumference of a kilometer and the center of the South Pole. Also works with any circle whose circumference is a kilometer divided by some whole number.

Bibi is not worthy. Bibi is not Gantz or Lapid or Barak or Peres or Rabin or Begin. And he is certainly not Ben-Gurion. If Bibi had been the leader of the settlement instead of Ben Gurion in 1944, wow, what combinations would have happened. From all sides you would hear about bribe payments he received from people with names like Rejo Kastner or Kurt Bacher for shady deals of people in exchange for trucks. The poor Jews who had the best of their money used to bribe Nazi officials (a handsome Kashish for the boss) were housed in tin sheds and shabby tents in the Negev or Cyprus and would mourn their fate in the Levant and embrace the comfortable life they left behind in Hungary.

    or in Silesia.

    Oh ..

    Good..

And why does no one address the dilemma I presented in:

  4. Israel Shapira,
    4: Afro-Eskimo.
...and in general, you go out with claims to the poor ice sellers and judge them... you complain about the cost of living in an igloo... you insult bears... it's not politically correct! You should say thank you that your question even appears in the forum!
    insolent!
    Only Gantz! Or someone else!
    Bibi is not good!

  5. Because of the warming the ice is becoming more expensive, the costs of building igloos are skyrocketing, and many bears are walking around in the summer without fur.

It's not easy being an Eskimo.

Riddle for the forum (if there is anyone here at all):

At five o'clock a hunter gets up and walks a kilometer south, then a kilometer west, then a kilometer north and reaches the starting point where he hunts an animal.

    What color is the animal?

    1. White.

    2. Black.

    3. White and black.

  8. I am shocked by the ignorance of the commenters who claim that there is no warming.
This is what happens when mom and dad are siblings...

  9. It's all fake news and the nonsense of scientists who need the next budget and must scribble apocalyptic nonsense to suck up more funds. On the same side of the fence stand the world's rich and encourage the panic since they already control the global carbon emissions bank from which they will make countless billions and all in the name of something that does not exist and is actually part of the earth's cycle.

  10. bullshit. There have already been months in previous years that were much warmer. Actually, it wasn't relatively hot at all and I almost didn't turn on air conditioners. I remember much hotter summers. Who performs the measurements? nonsense.

  11. Everyone is "in the know" but the one who hides the truth is NASA and the authorities who all belong to the Freemasons. So you will know that this is the effect of Nibiru together with underwater volcanoes that heat the earth, the sea as a result of which millions of fish die and are washed ashore for many kilometers for no reason and this is because they are simply cooked by the heat of the sea, therefore the researchers are also surprised by the mortality because in laboratory tests they did not find No negative results. Nibiru melts the poles from within. Under the ice sheet and now there is a passage for ships between Europe and Asia via the North Pole. Nibiru has caused horrific natural disasters that include the two tsunamis in 2004 and 2011 in Japan, sinkholes, floods, extreme changes in the weather, the explosion of volcanoes on land and under the sea, rivers with red water, extreme cold and heat, fires and more. NASA will also not tell you that above Nibiru, which is called a comet or a wand in some sources because of its tail, there are millions of arc-shaped gypsum stones that are hot asteroids, each of which is the size of a city and state in the USA and they are going to bombard and burn large parts of the earth. All the natural disasters that have happened happened within a few years, which was supposed to be at least 100 years.
There are two reasons for this. The so-called natural reason that Nibiru is 6 times larger than the Earth and its gravitational force is so huge and tremendous that when it comes to a distance like a brick from us, together with seven other stars around it, it will pump the sea water upwards and create waves that are approximately 600 meters high that will flood two thirds of the world With the first being the east and west coasts of the USA. England and Holland will sink completely under the water. So around the world they built huge bunkers with all the world's luxury for a few years and everything in splendor and splendor and a secret energy that replaces electricity. Also in the 30 square kilometer stadium that opened next to the Knesset building. All these are only for NASA people, the world's rich, governments and their leaders in the past and present and their families and other senior Masons because all of these belong to the Freemasons headed by the Pope.

  13. Why are the benefits of warming up like DHA never presented (and there are many of them!)?? A. The warming and proliferation of carbon dioxide improve the living conditions of the plants, thereby increasing crops, and reducing hunger in Israel! B. The warming keeps away the arrival of the periodic ice age, (because the melting ice cannot return the sun's heat to space, and increase the cold) during which billions of people will surely die, of hunger and cold! (Unlike the death, not sure, of a few millions, because of the warming!

  14. A recycled article with no details, it's a shame, usually this site gives better quality reading material

  15. We must do more.
We must educate the youth and inform them, we must demand that our leaders take steps. Not just to say what is not good. I'm sure there are ways to stop the phenomenon and even turn the wheel back.
Massive planting... different construction, encouraging travel by public transport, even at the price of almost free, electric vehicles and I'm sure there are more and different ways.

  16. Global warming is the biggest fake news trend. But of the year 2010. And you still continue to confuse our minds with articles on the subject. The month of July was not hot at all and was even one of the pleasant ones. Check your measuring devices or yourself. Global warming, if it exists, is just another cycle in the nature of the earth and man has nothing to do with it.

  17. Why start with a lie? Perhaps last July was the hottest month in the last three hundred years. But ever?! On what basis was this said?! Is this even reasonable in the author's own opinion?!
The religion of warming against empiricism
