A 1,400-year-old gold treasure containing a model of the Seven Reeds Menorah was discovered in Jerusalem

The treasure was packed in two cloth bags intended for two different uses: one contained dozens of gold coins and other objects intended for trade and purchase, and the other contained a gold medallion that was actually used as an ornament for a Torah scroll.

A gold medallion with an embossed model of the seven-caned menorah, a shofar and a Torah book, was discovered as part of a treasure of gold and silver objects in the archaeological excavations of the Hebrew University in Ofal at the foot of the Temple Mount, managed by Dr. Eilat Mazar from the university. A treasure of gold and silver objects including a gold medallion with an embossed model of the seven reeds lamp, a shofar and a Torah book, was discovered in the archaeological excavations of the Hebrew University in Ofal at the foot of the Temple Mount, managed by Dr. Eilat Mazar from the university. The treasure was discovered lying in the chalk floor of a building from the Byzantine period, located only about 50 meters south of the southern wall of the Temple Mount.

The treasure was packed in two cloth bags intended for two different uses: one contained dozens of gold coins and other objects intended for trade and purchase, and the other contained a gold medallion that was actually used as an ornament for a Torah book. The bag containing the ornaments was buried deeper in the floor and was kept intact while the contents of the second bag, which they probably did not have time to hide well, were scattered near the cache of the first bag. This is the first time that decorations for a Sefer Torah have been discovered from such an ancient time. Until now, it seemed that decorating a Torah scroll was a relatively late custom, from the Middle Ages, but now it turns out that it is an ancient custom that was practiced already in the Byzantine period.

The excavations in Ofal south of the southern wall of the Temple Mount began in April this year and continued until the end of July. The excavations, led by Dr. Eilat Mazar, are being conducted on behalf of the Institute of Archeology of the Hebrew University. The excavation project is being held in collaboration with the Antiquities Authority, which carries out the conservation work and the preparation of the area for public visits, with the Nature and Parks Authority, whose excavation area is part of a national park surrounding the walls of Jerusalem under its responsibility, and with the East Jerusalem Development Company, which manages the national park in Ofal.

The Ofel excavations, their advertising and the preparation of the site for a sponsored audience is the third season thanks to the generosity of Daniel Mintz and Meredith Berkman from New York. In addition, students from Ambassador College in Oklahoma regularly participate in the excavation, who also help with regular publication of the findings on the excavation site.

According to Dr. Eilat Mazar: "This is a breathtaking discovery that only happens once in a lifetime. After all, it's not every day that at the foot of the Temple Mount you discover a lamp with seven gold reeds."

Dr. Mazar adds that such a gold medallion has never been discovered in the excavations, and the appearance of the Torah book as a symbol next to the seven reeds lamp "in dozens of examples, including the floors of ancient synagogues, shows a model of the seven reeds lamp with on both sides the symbols of the Shofar, the four species, a prayer or Amphora (pottery). In the gold medallion from the Opal, the symbol of the Torah scroll appears in a rare way, which apparently expresses the use of the gold medallion to decorate the Torah scroll in a synagogue."

In addition to the ornaments of the Torah book, the treasure also contains thirty-six gold coins whose time spans about 250 years, from the days of Emperor Constantius II in the middle of the fourth century AD to the days of Emperor Mauritius who ruled until 602 AD.

According to the researchers, it seems that the treasure was brought to Jerusalem by emissaries of a Jewish community, apparently from outside Israel, who arrived in the city after it was conquered by the Persians in 614 AD. The Persians promised the Jews that they would be able to rebuild Jerusalem as a Jewish city and thus raised great hopes, especially after the hundreds of years in which the Jews were forbidden to settle in the city. After a short time, the power of the Persians weakened as they broke their promise and allowed the Christians to persecute and expel the Jews from the city. It is likely that the menorah treasure discovered in the excavations was abandoned by those Jews who were surprised by the treachery of the Persians and had to flee for their lives from the persecution of the Christians.

According to Dr. Mazar, the discovery of the menorah treasure in the Ofel excavations, just a few meters south of the triangular gate in the southern wall of the Temple Mount, expresses and illustrates the unceasing longing of the Jewish people for generations for redemption and revival in their homeland. "As an Israeli archaeologist and a Jew, I feel the power and am grateful for the great privilege that has fallen to us to uncover this rare treasure."

  1. To "Schrödinger's cat", according to Sages and Ionian historians and also according to Josephus Flavius, the Reds and Hitorians converted, in the days of House 2 about 90% of the people were inhabited by Romans from the entire kingdom, from the Greek islands and Asia Minor, that is, the Semitic genome of House 1 was completely blurred This is Rabbi Ishmael in the Mishna Negaim 6500 XNUMX described the color of the Jews as black, the trunk of a brown tree, Rabbi Meir is known to have lived and many other conditions. Avraham Abinu came from "Ur Kasdim", a region of southern Iraq, historians claim that the region was settled during the Obayd period, due to the migration of southern Arabs who began to be more fertile in that period around XNUMX BC.
Other conversions are in Persia, a claim that hundreds of thousands converted after the miracle of Purim, in Iraq in the kingdom of Khedive, the well-known Queen Helen and the entire aristocracy, some of the people also followed her.
In relation to the Jews of Yemen, only the aristocracy converted, and there is doubt as to whether this was a complete conversion, since they took the Hebrew God in political and not ceremonial terms, they took only one aspect of the God of Israel, "the Merciful", since they were attracted to the central idea of the "mercy" in the God of the Hebrews, there is There is also evidence that they looked externally at the tribes of the Jews from an inscription discovered by the well-known archaeologist Glazer, which aroused great interest in the world of science, and which begins with these words: "Bless and bless the name of the Most Merciful, Deshmin Wisrael, and God, the Lord of Yahud," etc. , and Israel and their God, the Lord of Judah," etc., that is, the "Merciful" God receives honor, in front of the full God of Israel.
In Morocco, there is evidence of the queen "Dahia El Kaheena" who converted the Berber tribes, Phoenicians, Vandals and natives from North Africa.
Regarding the Ashkenazi Jews, there was a conversion in Rome itself of the common people, further on, there is no documentation, but regarding the Khazars, there is Rihel's story, although after him there are also stories about whole villages who converted from Hasidism from Eastern Europe, regarding Central and Western Europe, there is not enough knowledge

  2. It is not clear why my response is actually pending. Anyway

    "willing to do"
What I wrote to you in short is that the name is also tolerant towards leftists. And you don't have to kill them straight away except that it is forbidden to kill. Cursing them is allowed. Consult with your rabbi what to do. There are those on the left who will defend him, but their defense involves the effort of fingers and keyboard so you have nothing to worry about. They have and in this shave they are afraid of you but from here until they kill it. Already beyond what the name is willing to accept. Explain to them in beautiful words and in all things what awaits them in the next world and if they are not convinced, then God will make sure that they pay for it in this world. Look here, my father is already bald from skepticism. This is the beginning of a sign from God. With God's help and a good signature.

  3. ready to do the dirty work,
Are you man enough to declare this to the police or are you just smart in a forum where you feel protected but my father has your IP and email. Still man enough?

  4. For 'what a beauty' - if everything is known and defined in advance, no science is needed, is it possible to give the entire budget of the universities to meetings and peace be upon Israel?

  5. The Holy One, blessed be He, always exists, He is not created, He always exists (perhaps it can be said that God created Himself and before Him there was no creation, in order to explain the ear) God has no beginning and no end, until God created creatures, there was no Such a thing was created, God created this creation, within this creation, God created sun, moon, and day and night, which are time, within this time, he created us, he created us because he is good, and the way of good is to do good, therefore he created creatures to do good to them, but we humans with our bad deeds have brought upon ourselves various evils, and we have all sinned against God, the Holy One, blessed be He, created us human beings, even though He knew that many humans would rebel against Him, that many would do against His will, what other king does that? No one. When human beings sin against a king of flesh and blood, that king slaughters them and kills them in that moment, but there is no King of kings, the Holy One, blessed be He, so, when human beings sin against Him, He gives them life, and performs many miracles with them when they sin against Him, when they do against Him His will, and gives the creatures a long time to correct their bad deeds, until the punishment comes. And we do not know our bad deeds that we did in previous incarnations, and even when we sin against God, we sin before God, who fills the whole earth with His glory, and what king would sit quietly while doing things against His will is next to him? No one. There is no king like the Almighty, who is as merciful as he is. And God accepts back everyone who has sinned against Him, and from everything it is possible to return to repentance, to return to God, no matter what the person sinned, for there is nothing that stands in the way of repentance. And Loves every Jew and Jewess, and even if they don't do His will, God still loves them very much.

A great mitzvah, to say it on purpose (and it is possible to say it over and over continuously, like the chapters of Psalms and Laws).
Creator of the world, what an end, of all creatures (1) that you created (2), and that you created (3), and that you will not create (4), full of blessings as great as you (5), this is still not enough to thank you and bless you, king of the world, for the zero end of One thing you did with one Bria:

And Creator of the world, how many of us, of all the creatures you created, and that you will create, and that you will not create, full of poetry as great as you, and our tongues ringing as great as you, and our lips praising as great as you, still this will not be enough to thank you, King of the world, for the zero end of one thing that you did with one creature:

And Creator of the world, you are as holy as you are, as pure as you are, and as blessed as you are, and as glorified as you are, and as excellent as you are, and as glorious as you are, and as good as you are, and as pious as you are:

And blessed, you are the Creator of the world, and your name (6) is great and holy, always, above all blessings, and above all praises, and consolations, and rejoicings, and glories, and confessions, and service, and chants, and praises, that are written and said, and that they write and that they say, and that they do not write and that they do not say. 7), forever and ever, forever and ever, forever,
And Creator of the world, blessed are you, always, with these blessings according to your size, and even if we do not bless you with these blessings, you are always blessed with them, and you are blessed with them more than the number of all the creatures you created, and will create, and will not create, forever and ever, forever and ever:

1-Some of the creatures are, angels, seraphim, modes, holy animals, sun, moon, stars, spirits, humans, animals, plants, each grain of dust is a creation in itself, each grain of sand is a creation in itself, each drop Rain is a creature in itself, etc.
    2-Until now.
3-If you create in the future.
4- Because you can create without a break.
5- The world is within God, God cleared a place within himself and created all of this creation, where this creation ends, everything that is after it around is God, and there is no end to God's greatness, what He has no end to, so also He is blessed and glorified, etc. without end.
6- A name that was said in Sinai, and the rest of God's names.
7- God knows these blessings, there is more.

  6. Sagi
They found inside the temple skeletons of Palestinosaurus from about 70 million years ago. which is a scientific fact and proof that the Palestinian people have always been here. Unfortunately, the occupation army took the skeletons from the hands of innocent Palestinian children immediately after taking their organs for transplants in Israel. The occupation is indeed corrupting

  7. There were waves of conversions during the two thousand years of exile - tribes in the Arabian Peninsula and in particular in Yemen in the fifth century; Ethiopia; Morocco; The Khazars.

  8. The question is over
What did the Jews look like in biblical times? Were they seen as Arabs? After all, we are descended from Iraq (Abraham), Egypt (the Children of Israel) and the Land of Israel.
How is it that Jews in the Diaspora changed their appearance, including the color of their skin, in about 40 generations, according to the population and the region in which they lived?
After all, Judaism, certainly Judaism 100 years ago or more, was a closed religion that did not look favorably on assimilation

  9. This is the right place to discover such a find, Byzantines, Persians, Muslims, it doesn't matter. Jerusalem is only ours.
Thanks and congratulations to Eilat Mazar and the archaeologists of the Hebrew University - in Jerusalem.
