The Minister of Education, Gideon Sa'ar, announced this evening, Monday, the winner of the Israel Prize in the field of mathematics research and computer science research for 2012, Prof. David Kashdan, from the Hebrew University.

In its reasoning for awarding the prize, the committee noted Prof. Kashdan's important contributions to the theory of bruises. This doctrine is one of the central doctrines in mathematics as a whole which includes the definition of the Kashdan property and contributions to the geometrization of representation theory. Bunch theory is one of the cornerstones of all mathematics and its uses spread to physics and quantum theory and computer science. Prof. Kashdan is recognized as one of the leading mathematicians in the world in recent decades. The awarding of the Israel Prize to Prof. Kashdan adds a proper honor to him and even honors the prize itself.

Prof. Kashdan is a full professor at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, a MacArthur Fellow, a member of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States, a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the Israel National Academy of Sciences, winner of the Rothschild Prize (2009).
Prof. Michael Rabin served as chairman of the award committee, with the members of the committee next to him - Prof. Hillel Furstenberg, Prof. Aviezri Frankel and Prof. Nega Alon.
