Herzl, Orson Welles, homosexuals in Brazil and the war of liberation - in a new booklet of "Zammen"

Was there really a danger to the State of Israel as a result of the invasion of Arab armies immediately after the declaration of independence. David Tal believes that there was no such danger, and therefore it is difficult to even define whether Israel won the War of Independence.

Was there really a danger to the State of Israel as a result of the invasion of Arab armies immediately after the declaration of independence. David Tal believes that there was no such danger, and therefore it is difficult to even define whether Israel won the War of Independence.
In an article published in the history quarter "Times" in the Fall 2002 issue published by the School of History of Tel Aviv University and the Kinneret publisher, Zamora Beitan-Dvir.
According to the thesis put forward by Tal, the different armies that invaded were not coordinated, and that the IDF in general intended to occupy only the territory allowed to the Jewish state in the partition decision plus Jerusalem. Arab armies were not coordinated among themselves. The Jordanians, for example, also only wanted to occupy territories destined for the Arab state, the Iraqis and Syrians were defeated at their original point of invasion and contented themselves with helping the Jordanians establish themselves in the territory they conquered. Egyptian supply lines were strained. The Arab armies were superior to the IDF both in terms of the training of their commanders and in terms of equipment, but they did not use all their strength due to political arguments.
Another interesting article talks about Herzl's will and how it was decided not to carry it out until the end when the committee appointed at the beginning of the state decided not to raise the bones of his children who committed suicide and his son even converted to Christianity before committing suicide.
For converts, the fate of Herzl's children serves as an example of negation in Zionism, the question is whether this is enough to disobey Herzl's express will to raise the bones of his parents and children (there was some doubt about his wife) and bury them in independent Israel?

Another interesting article deals with the hysteria caused by the radio drama "The War of the Worlds" in Orson Welles' radio version. The article focuses on the role of radio at the time and Wells' avant-garde theater group.
Another article deals with homosexuality in Basel from the beginning of the 20th century until World War II, a right-wing dictatorship that was very close to Nazi Germany and whose scientists conducted very difficult experiments on humans.
In our magazine landscape, Zemanim is a unique magazine, and it shows that history does not have to be a heavenly collection of dates and dynasties.

  1. I don't understand how you came to the conclusion that there was no danger of invasion even though the Arab armies did not use all their military power and according to you were not coordinated.
To the best of my opinion, the Arab leaders made a competition among themselves to see who would reach the first Hebrew city in order to erase the memory of the Zionist attempt to resettle in their country.
The state of mind that Israeli soldiers sang about in the War of Independence after the Holocaust and a history full of pogroms and decrees could have prevailed even if they had come with their entire (obsolete) army...
It was the same post-traumatic situation that led to victory and of course with a little help from above..
Shame on you for wanting to lower the level of heroism of our soldier in that war and to this day!
