• Science on the tip of the tongue - Dr. Naomi Ziv, Idan Fromin, Prof. Tzachi Papel, Prof. Sam Sagi
In the last decades, science has been developing by leaps and bounds in a variety of fields such as: life sciences, medicine and physics, but it seems that the field of cooking science is a little behind. Recently, this field, which deals with chemical, physical and biological processes that occur during cooking, has received a lot of interest and is even starting to be recognized as an academic field. In this series we will focus on some scientific studies and their relation to the field of food and cooking. We will understand what the sense of smell is, we will discuss the human influence on the genetics of food and we will learn about innovation in the field.

• Front stage meetings - Dr. Lior Noy, Prof. Uri Alon, Mart Meirovich, Dr. Ati Citron, Dr. Son Preminger
The series will present surprising encounters between scientific research - in particular brain research, human behavior and medical sciences - with the stage and screen arts - theater, dance, music, cinema and clowning. We will reveal new connections between scientific research and the arts, two central forms of human inquiry since time immemorial. The series will be delivered by researchers and creators working themselves in these two worlds.

• The remembering brain – Dr. Orit Furman, Dr. Avi Mendelson, Dr. Efrat Forest, Dr. Nachum Ulanovsky
The series will deal with the different and diverse aspects of memory: how the brain encodes, stores, and retrieves memories. We will talk about the difference between different types of memory, we will examine to what extent the memory is reliable and trustworthy, when
And why do we forget, and can memories be erased. We will also talk about neuropathologies that impair memory such as Alzheimer's disease, and examine how the knowledge gained from memory research can be applied in everyday life.
• Genetics, computers and everything in between
Dr. Mati Cohen, Prof. Gideon Schreiber, Dr. Eran Hornstein, Yuval Hart
In this series we will explain the basic principles of molecular biology, we will demonstrate their application in biological systems in order of increasing complexity, from the cell level to the whole organism. The terms: chromosomes, genes, mutations, genetic diseases and genetics will be explained, in the broad research context.

The series will take place at the same time on Mondays, between the hours of 21:00 and 19:15
At the Davidson Institute for Science Education, Weizmann Institute of Science, Rehovot
Start date: November 28, 2011, Mon
