Video: Tonight an asteroid passed between us and the moon's orbit. Another one will pass tomorrow

The 2014-meter diameter 110 DX30 was discovered just a week before its flyby, and luckily it's not expected to collide with Earth or the Moon

Update: During the broadcast it was reported that today another asteroid was discovered that will approach the Earth tomorrow, at a much closer distance than today's about 50 thousand kilometers, although it is a smaller asteroid - 12 meters in diameter.

The community observatory Slooth also updated that scientists calculated and found that the asteroid that passed tonight, 2014, DX110, had already passed by the Earth several times until it was discovered last week, according to the calculations, one of the passes in 1978, was half the distance it passed today.

In the last year, two collisions of asteroids on the moon were photographed Director 2014, Andאוקטובר 2014, and two serious events were recorded on Earth, one of which is of course the famous Chelyabinsk event, the other, on January 1, 2014, ended without harm when a large meteorite crashed over the Atlantic Ocean.

for advance notice

The Earth and Moon system is going to have a close shave today when one of the near-Earth objects, the asteroid 2014 DX110, will pass at a distance of 345 thousand kilometers from us at 21:06 GMT, 23:06 Israel time.

Asteroid 2014 DX110, about 30 meters in diameter, was discovered by the Pan-STARRS 1 sky survey on February 28 and its orbit was tracked using follow-up observations from the Great Shepherd Observatory in Berkshire, UK.

There is no danger to the Earth or the Moon (the asteroid will pass at a distance of 370 thousand kilometers from the Moon one hour and 22 minutes after the closest pass to the Earth), NASA's risk page estimates the chance of it crashing into the Earth at 1 in 10 million.

The asteroid will not be bright enough to see with the naked eye. It will peak at magnitude 15+ when it slides north through the Giraffe group at its closest point.
You can watch the asteroid live on the website The Virtual Telescope Project The broadcast will begin at 22:30 Israel time and will be accompanied by a commentary from the studio (watch the live video and then the recording in the window below these lines.)

Shabibi will tell the Commissioner to drive his car to Kek and will be on the lookout all night until the monster leaves.
