Venus has been moving towards the sun for the past few days. This is what the phenomenon looks like in the coronagraph device on board the Soho spacecraft that studies the sun. The spacecraft watched the approach of Venus for its last transit until the year 2117 which will take place this morning.

Using coronagraphs, sunlight is blocked by a disc near the lens, which is visible in the video in blue. Thanks to this disk, Soho can observe much brighter objects in the Sun's corona. The true size of the Sun is represented by the white disk.

The transit of Venus will begin at one o'clock in the night that we are reading, but from Israel it will of course only be visible at sunrise around half past five in the morning. A full broadcast of the transition will be broadcast on the Universe Today website. The transition will be visible Site Or on the YouTube channel of Universe Today

  1. Because they like to think that the end of the world is near... it probably makes us happy if we invent a new 'Doomsday' every few years or at least once a generation.
