Itamar Hasson, a 17-year-old school student, won a silver medal this week at the Asian Physics Olympiad. Itamar, who is about to graduate this year with a bachelor's degree in mathematics with honors at Bar-Ilan University, is a serial exceller and for them it is a family story. Itamar and his 18-and-a-half-year-old sister Esther are graduates of the "Bachelor's Degree Program in Mathematics for Outstanding Technicians", a unique project for Bar-Ilan University.

He entered the competition after studying the material alone for six months. A year ago was the first stage and since then I just progressed until the Olympics. "The Israeli team, not only the one that brought five medals (one silver and another four bronze), also overtook well-known teams including India and Vietnam," said Itamar.

Prof. Moshe Koa, president of Bar-Ilan University, hosted Itamar, his parents and his sister Esther, who is about to graduate this year with Itamar, with a bachelor's degree in mathematics with honors at Bar-Ilan. "I am very proud of your achievement, which is an achievement of the State of Israel. We see you as a lift, and you have the possibility to continue to excel in the academic track. Our 'chosen' program allows you to complete a doctorate within six years in a direct route, and everything is open to you," said Prof. Koa.

"I have a great interest in continuing. And I'm happy for the opportunity to study physics at the academy and not just by myself," answered Itamar.

"The normal education system is not built to take care of the gifted. It is important for us as a scientific academy to preserve and promote the 'Program for Outstanding Mathematics', which was founded in Bar-Ilan and has been successful for 25 years, and the program for its graduates: "The Bachelor's Degree Program in Mathematics for Outstanding Technicians", which has been operating for eight years, and thanks to which over 300 outstanding high school students have completed their bachelor's degrees in mathematics even before the military service. 95% of them go to elite units in the field of science and their military service is a scientific-academic contribution to the State of Israel that is incomparable to it," said Prof. Kova.

  1. Have you noticed? The guy studied alone…
    That's the whole story.
This is what distinguishes gold from silver and no medal.

The Chinese and Iranians invest millions in their candidates, including long years of training.

  2. Eli Raz does bother and invests a lot of time and effort on the subject and it's really a shame that few are aware of it.
In recent years, he has also received assistance from competition alumni who dedicate days and nights to training the next generations.
One name that deserves to be mentioned in this context is that of Pavel Radzilovsky.
The state, on the other hand, does very little in the matter and this is the reason why all volunteers have to invest a lot of effort in obtaining funding

  3. Congratulations and best wishes to Dr. Eli Raz from Ort College in Karmiel and from the Department of Science Teaching at the Technion, who for the past ten years has labored and painstakingly devotedly, warmly, with extraordinary humility and with great success, to promote the teams that represent us in the Olympiad in Asia and the world. So long! Good luck in the following competitions and especially in the organization of the Olympiad which is planned to take place in Israel in two years!

  4. Bachelor's degree at the age of 17
I am 23 years old and have just started matriculation.

    Well done.

  5. It seems that it makes sense to conduct genetic research on this special family...
