The award, under the auspices of the Italian Minister of Culture, was given as part of the events held in Italy on the occasion of the sixtieth year of the State of Israel.
"The Excellences for Israel" award will be given at the end of this month in Rome to Dr. Shulamit Levenberg from the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering at the Technion. Similar awards will be given to men and women active in a variety of fields (art, cinema, music, economics and scientific research) as well as to Italian personalities who have devoted themselves to promoting friendship and cooperation between Israel and Italy. Among the personalities who will participate in the event: Nobel laureate, Professor Rita Levi Montalcini, Zvi Yanai, Yosef Cedar, Noam Sharif, Danny Karvan and Arturo Schwartz.
The prize is a bronze sculpture built especially for this event by the young and well-known Italian artist Alex Pina.
