A tribute to the natural environment

"In honor of this day, an initiative is being launched in our small country to cancel the ban on building on the beaches, those beaches where sewage and industrial effluents that poison fish are intermittently poured. I remembered the patient we disrupted and the Dead Sea we are drying."

March 3 is designated as the International Day for the Protection of the Environment. In honor of this day, I wanted to praise and praise the beautiful activity for the conservation of nature in Israel, to mention the restoration of the populations of deer, goats, wolves and jackals, to note the special and unique reserves throughout the country and to mention the journey that caused a change in the practice of picking flowers and other beautiful initiatives and actions, but then the skeptic in me woke up and I remembered Because in honor of this day, in our small country there is an initiative to cancel the ban on building on the beaches, those beaches where sewage and industrial effluents that poison fish are intermittently poured. I remembered the patient we disrupted and the Dead Sea we are drying. Compared to the Hula and the small Dead Sea, I remembered the Ural and Chad seas that had disappeared.

I also remembered that, with the exception of human society, there are no animals that destroy the natural environment consciously and in a way that prevents regeneration and restoration.
I thought that declaring one day as "today" implies a failure in what had to be a natural and self-evident course, because just as it is clear to the majority of the human population that there is an essential need to maintain health, so it should have been understood that preserving the environment is an existential necessity like the existing one among primary populations that are also exterminated.

What was supposed to be understandable, necessary and natural was a failed initiative of a small part of humanity, of those who understand that since the natural instincts are suppressed by technological and cultural developments, laws and regulations are needed so that future generations can continue to exist in balance with the natural environment that is being destroyed as civilization and technology evolves,

The destruction is expressed in a series of injustices that we produce: wild hunters of species because of superstitions and unnecessary customs eliminate populations without the possibility of rehabilitation, (it doesn't matter that there are virtual zoos, films and documentaries); The use of insecticides and herbicides causes serious damage to honey bees and other pollinators and thus damages the ability to produce food. (it is not important that technological methods for food production will be developed); Excessive use of (artificial) fertilizers causes damage and salting of water bodies, toxic algae blooms and groundwater poisoning. (Well, already today, water is desalinated and detoxification methods will be developed) Plastic of all sizes and types "decorates" the environment, creates stains in the oceans, poisons, suffocates and kills marine and terrestrial creatures (therefore plastic presentations of extinct living systems will be developed). ‬‬

Above and beyond the cutting down of forests, the damming of rivers, the wholesale destruction of animals and plants, human society emits gases into the atmosphere that harm the ozone layer that are added to the oceans and as a result the composition of the water changes, other gases - the greenhouse gases create a "blanket" that causes warming on a scale and speed that the world, nature and the environment did not know. (No big deal, an artificial atmosphere system will be developed).

After all the damage and destruction that is consciously caused, it is no wonder that in order to calm the conscience of a society that is destroying its future, there is a need for "Environment Protection Day".

More than ten years ago I wrote on the need to preserve the natural environment. Unfortunately, it is becoming more and more clear that the technological developments and cultural adaptations are advancing human society to the sad possibility of separation from nature, the chances are increasing that those who are "eagerly awaiting" a technological world without a natural environment are getting closer to fulfilling their expectations.
Like ours, it is possible to visit museums and archeology sites, so there will be reserves and zoos for future generations where it will be possible to see what nature is, and then when the natural environment will be an ethereal concept, the members of the generation will know that they are in the midst of the anthropogenic era.

I came to bless, glorify and praise and left a eulogy...

  1. It is true that the trend today is to take over nature and destroy it.

There is a tendency to underestimate nature, exploit and trample on it, so I understand the pessimism and also share it with other nature lovers.

Unfortunately, it will be much worse before it gets better, but it will get better.

In the best case scenario, the human race will learn that nature is important for the Earth's climate, for enriching man with ideas, for inspiring new technologies and molecules, and other contributions that we are not yet smart enough to notice.

In the worst case scenario - man will exterminate nature, the world will become artificial and barren and then accidentally, or negligently, or on purpose, we will throw it out of balance and it will not be able to support humans anymore and then we will become extinct.

One way or another, with us or without us, nature will return and thrive. It has amazing self-healing abilities, just look at what happened in Chernobyl, and what happens wherever man abandoned it.

I just hope the first scenario comes true and not the second.

I would be happy to receive information about how to oppose the new plan for construction on the beaches.
We succeeded in the swamp and in the Falklands... and we need to start the next battle.

  2. Hey Assaf, don't be so pessimistic.
It is possible that pessimism is the lot of many environmentalists, because the environment has indeed suffered enormous damage.
But from a broader perspective there is room for optimism.
It took the human race thousands of years to learn from mistakes.
Wars and discrimination based on sex, race, religion, etc. are two problems that the human race has been dealing with for thousands of years,
And only in the last hundreds or decades it seems that we have started to correct and learn from the mistakes.
Since World War II, wars have been consistently getting smaller and smaller, and it is more clear to us that peace is more profitable. (We take the existence of the European Union for granted, but it is a miracle by any measure, which indicates the maturation of the human race)
Women, blacks and minorities all over the world are getting more and more equal rights.
The problem of the destruction of the environment is a relatively young problem for the human race, and if so, at the level of external consensus, we have already had enough
Recognize that harming the environment is something harmful that must be changed (see the decisions of the last World Conference on the Environment).
    This is true,
The actions already taken by us in the past are still ahead of the solutions and the level of awareness of humanity towards the quality of the environment, and therefore we
You can expect the damage to expand, but the slope of the damage growth curve is already declining.
If you look at historical time frames, the solution to the environmental quality problem is already beyond the cycle.
You just have to keep going and do…
