The Executive Committee of Tel Aviv University unanimously approved the election of Prof. Ehud Gazit (41) to the position of Vice President for Research and Development of Tel Aviv University. Prof. Gazit will take up his position in October 2008 and he will replace Prof. Hagit Maser-Yeron who was elected to the position of president of the Open University.

Prof. Gazit, a global expert in the field of nanotechnology, is one of Tel Aviv University's most prominent scientists. His many studies have been published in the most important scientific press and he is considered a pioneer in the field of biological and chemical nanotechnology. His laboratory is one of the largest and most active in Israel and he has mentored dozens of research students, some of whom are in leading academic institutions in the world.

Prof. Gazit is a member of a large number of leading international scientific journal systems, active in European and American scientific organizations, and a member of scientific forums of the Israeli National Academy of Sciences. In addition to his main academic appointment at Tel Aviv University, he has a visiting appointment at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) since 2002.

Prof. Gazit won many awards for his scientific work, including the John F. Kennedy, the Landau Prize, and the Research Excellence Award of the Scientific Council of Tel Aviv University.
