Following the success of the Personalized Medicine Conference (PMWC) held in January 2010 in Silicon Valley, its organizers, Silicon Ventures, an investor club from the USA, in collaboration with Adventist-Oncotest-Teva, which specializes in personalized medicine, decided to hold a B of the meeting and hold it in Israel. The meeting, intended for researchers, IT managers, life science entrepreneurs, health industry professionals and private investors, will deal with molecular diagnostics, personalized oncology, ethics and law, and bioinformatics. The conference will be held on June 21, 2010 at the Daniel Hotel in Herzliya.

"Personalized medicine paves the way for a more efficient health care system, by adapting the treatment to the unique genetic profile of the patient," says Dr. Shay Yarkoni, CEO of Bio-Negev, which is hosting the conference together with the Export Institute. "This is a growing field that prevents loss of life and saves a lot in the costs of the health system." According to Dr. Yarkoni, the reason the continuation of the conference was moved to Israel, indicates its strong position and global recognition as a hotbed for technological breakthroughs, entrepreneurship and leading research in the biomed field, as well as a strong health system and medical resources. "Beyond that, there is a concentration of doctors here who are open to technological innovations that can help their patients."

Dr. Amos Barzilai, chairman of the PMWC Israel conference: "The personalized medicine market is gaining global momentum, it is currently estimated at 232 billion dollars and growing at an annual rate of 11%. We see Israel as fertile ground for breakthrough innovation in personalized medicine. The purpose of the conference is to connect researchers, developers and investors in Israel and around the world and help them realize the potential inherent in the field in a way that will significantly advance the world of medicine."

At the end of the conference, the most promising company in the field of personal medicine in Israel will be announced. Dr. Yarkoni, who will also serve as chairman of the judging committee, says that the selection, which will also be shared with the audience, will be based on the company's uniqueness and potential, the ability to implement the invention and the financial results and the expected return on investment.

Among the speakers at the conference: Greg Lussier, Chairman and CEO of Life Technologies, Kenneth Berlin, President and CEO of Rosetta Genomics, David Sidransky, Chairman of Champions Biotechnology, Richard Dean Hockett, Medical Director of Affymetrix.
