When the raw materials are a millionth of a millimeter in size

24 artists from around the world will present in an exhibition dedicated to nano-art as part of the Israel Nano Conference, on March 26 * The artists make use of raw materials that are millionths of a millimeter in size, while using chemical or physical processes and the most advanced magnification equipment.

A nano art exhibition, by the NanoArt 21 group, which includes dozens of nano artists from around the world, will open at the David Intercontinental Hotel in Tel Aviv on March 26. The exhibition, to which admission is free, will be held as part of the "Nano-Israel 2012" conference, the largest nanotechnology event in Israel. At the same time, a competition will be held between Israeli artists whose works will also be presented at the exhibition.

The nano artists, most of whom are engaged in pure research in the fields of nanotechnology on a daily basis, make use of raw materials that are millionths of a millimeter in size in their works. While using chemical or physical processes and the most advanced magnification equipment (electron and atomic microscopes), they change and process different materials at their molecular and atomic level and create microscopic landscapes and sculptures. The miniature works cannot be seen without auxiliary equipment, so they are photographed using powerful microscopes, processed by the artists in a variety of more 'traditional' techniques, enlarged to (relatively) huge dimensions and printed as works of art.

The NanoArt 21 group, whose members are artists from around the world, was founded by the American artist and scientist Chris Orpasco, with the stated aim of raising the general public's awareness of nanotechnology and its impact on all of our lives in an attractive way. "Nano-art is a new artistic discipline that is at the intersection between art-science-technology", says Orpasco who himself created several works especially for the event in Israel. "This is art that reflects emerging technology."

At the same time as the international exhibition, the results of a nano art competition held in recent months between Israeli researchers, artists and nano scientists will be displayed at the David Intercontinental Hotel in Tel Aviv during the days of the "Nano-Israel 2012" conference (which will be held between March 26 and 27, 2012).

  1. Represents photoshop of computer simulations and black and white scanner macroscope photographs painted with surrealistic colors without scientific value.
Unlike writing, there are no miniature works here.
