Scientists announced today (Monday) that they found the remains of the meteor that exploded in the air over central Russia in the Ural Mountains region and caused the shock wave that resulted in the injury of over 1,200 people, mainly due to exploding windows.

According to the estimate, the meteor broke up into at least seven large pieces, with one of them falling into Lake Cherbakol, about 150 kilometers from Chelyabinsk.

The Russian news agency RIA-Novosti said that small pieces of the meteor were discovered near an ice crater in the lake yesterday evening. Tests revealed that it is a meteor containing 10% iron.

The Ministry of Emergency Management searched Lake Charbakol on Saturday but did not find any remains of the meteor.
