Morris Kahn will light a torch on the eve of Independence Day together with the founders of SpaceIL

In his response, Kahn noted: "It is a great honor for me to light a torch on Independence Day together with Maysid "Berashit" Yariv, Kfir and Yonatan, and I am very grateful for that. Before us is an important challenge - Genesis 2

SpaceIL Chairman Maurice Kahn, who was the main contributor to the construction of the spacecraft in Genesis, will light a torch on the eve of Independence Day together with the association's founders.

As you may remember, last week, April 11, the spacecraft crashed when its main engine stopped working about 14 km above the surface of the moon. However, it set an example to the world of how a privately funded spacecraft could be built at a tenth of the price it costs space agencies to do so, but also taught us all that space is not hospitable and that mishaps can happen. The Beresheet spacecraft was launched about a month ago on a SpaceX launcher and successfully completed many maneuvers around the Earth, and later in the transition from orbit around the Earth to orbit around the Moon.

In doing so, Israel became the seventh country to send a spacecraft that successfully orbited the moon.

Kahn will light the beacon together with Kafir Demari, one of the three founders of SpaceIL.

In his response, Kahn noted: "It is a great honor for me to light a torch on Independence Day together with Maysid "Berashit" Yariv, Kfir and Yonatan, and I am very grateful for that. The goal of the association, our donors and partners in the project - the aerospace industry, is to inspire the younger generation to dare to dream and not fear the road. In doing so, I feel that we succeeded - we created the "Genesis effect" We are not giving up on the goal we set for ourselves and we have a new and exciting path ahead of us - "Genesis 2".

As I recall, yesterday Kahn was a guest on the program "Meet the Press" on Channel 12 and told the host of the program Rina Misleh: "As early as tomorrow, a task force will meet to start working. We will receive the funding from donors and the public." When asked about the financing of the additional project, Kahan explained that his plan is to mobilize the people of Israel for the benefit of the project: "Everyone wants to participate, I received an offer from the US from someone rich who offered to pay a lot of money, but I think the money should come from the public. The project should be popular with the State of Israel."

  1. I hope they perform the maneuvers well until reaching Mount Herzl and God forbid they don't crash on us 3 minutes before landing on a beacon...
    They deserve all the respect.
The nation of Israel is alive, waiting for Genesis 2.

  2. Conan
Not everything is business considerations, no need for cynicism
The man donated a large amount
and did an important act of promoting awareness of science

    He definitely deserves it

  3. Now we all know what the formula is for receiving the honor of carrying a torch at the Independence Day ceremony in the State of Israel: the torch bearer must be an American Jew, who knows 2 sentences in perfect Hebrew, and serves as the CEO of a private and independent company (who for his business considerations brought in about 40-50 million to the company he owns dollar during 8 years).
I will remind everyone: there is and never was any connection between the State of Israel and the construction and launch of "Bereshit"; These were a private initiative and a private performance as part of an international competition to land a private spacecraft on the moon!!!
And as it is said: "... and think about it..."
