Professor Linda Y. Saif from Ohio University, USA is the winner of the 2015 Wolf Prize in the agriculture category, for promoting human and farm animal health through groundbreaking research in virology and immunology.
In their decision, the members of the judging team explain: "Prof. Saif is an exceptional virologist and immunologist who has dedicated her life to researching diseases of utmost importance to the health of farm animals, global food security, and public health. She discovered types of viruses that attack the digestive and respiratory systems of farm animals and humans, and these discoveries led her to a breakthrough understanding of the immune system in mammals, and to the development of innovative strategies and approaches for the development of antiviral vaccines."
