A new award of excellence will be awarded to young scientists in Israel, at Bar-Ilan University. This is the first year in which the Creel Awards for excellence in scientific research are awarded. The winners of the awards are academics who have demonstrated excellence in their research, and have contributed through their achievements to the advancement of humanity in the fields of science. The prize distribution will be held at Bar-Ilan University with the participation of Prof. Menachem Yaari, President of the Israel National Academy of Sciences, and Prof. Moshe Koa, President of Bar-Ilan University.

Six awards of $10,000 each will be awarded annually. The awards are intended for researchers in the fields of exact sciences, life sciences, medicine, agriculture and engineering, outstanding academic faculty members, at the rank of lecturer or senior lecturer, who have not yet received tenure, who are employed at one of the universities in Israel.
The winners were chosen by the Wolf Foundation's scholarship committee from outstanding candidates submitted by the universities, the Technion and the Weizmann Institute of Science.

The awards are funded by the Karil family and are given in memory and in honor of the late Benjamin and Gitla Karil Mansbach Schlengar, as part of the Wolf Foundation, which is chaired by the Minister of Education, Culture and Sports, Mrs. Limor Livnet. The foundation was founded in 1957 by Dr. Ricardo Wolff, an inventor, diplomat and philanthropist, with the aim of promoting science and art for the benefit of humanity. The Wolf Prizes have been awarded annually since 1978 to scientists and nationalists for their achievements for humanity and for friendly relations between nations. In addition to the international awards, the foundation awards scholarships and research grants to students studying in higher education institutions in Israel, in a variety of fields and professions.

One of the six outstanding winners is Dr. Yoram Luzon, from the Department of Mathematics at Bar-Ilan University. His research interests are biology and mathematical immunology, stochastic processes and graph theory. Dr. Luzon mainly focuses on investigating the processes of self-harm of the immune system, and defining all the known objects of the immune system. Understanding them will make it possible to prevent the development and worsening of immune diseases such as juvenile diabetes and lupus.
Dr. Luzon is considered a very active researcher in his field, and in the last year alone he published ten scientific articles in collaboration with leading laboratories in Israel and the world: Princeton University in the USA, the Hebrew University and the Weizmann Institute.
