Despite several ecological parks and attempts to establish green houses, environmentalists have not been able to influence the construction technologies in Jordan and turn a hotel into a green one. Maybe the crazy park in the style of the Star Trek series can help with that. King Abdullah believes that the park that will be built with an investment of 1.5 billion dollars in the port city of Aqaba, could be used as a demonstration of technologies that use renewable energy.
The financing of the project will come from investors from the USA and the Gulf countries. Rubicon, based in Amman, will be responsible for the development and entertainment components of the resort, while Fremont Recreation will provide the "Star Trek" components.
Although it is a huge park in size - as mentioned 740 dunams - and it will contain four star hotels from 17 entertainment areas, it has ecological advantages and will teach the guests about the benefits of cleantech and other creative environmental solutions.
One of the pavilions will show the utilization of gray water, solar energy and a variety of renewable technologies that will be integrated into the development of the project itself. The Callison Company will work with Rubicon to design the futuristic facilities that should accelerate tourism activity. It still remains to be seen whether in the total calculation its environmental impact will be positive or negative.

King Abdullah is a longtime fan of the Star Trek series and even appeared in one of the episodes for a few seconds (and thanks to Kobe S. Brotter).

The shuttles are 30 years old. Beyond what Gene Roddenberry wrote - pilot vehicles suffer from the phenomenon of material fatigue. This is an issue that goes beyond cost, and each aircraft is designed for a certain number of flight hours.

  2. A tremendous game by King (then Prince) Abdullah, the serious head nod was supposed to give him the "Emmy" award.
It's a shame that the science fiction series in "Emmy" are not counted.

  3. Answer regarding the shuttle - NASA's budget has gotten smaller and smaller over the years, due to many reasons that there is no room to detail here.
The shuttles have reached their capacity limit and there are simply no reasons to continue their flight from a scientific point of view, except for the "shuttle" purpose only - transporting astronauts to the space station and back to Israel. But this task can be done much cheaper with Russian missiles, so it was decided to do so instead of the ferries.
NASA recently decided to focus its efforts on the longer term - manned flights to Mars.
