Hagit Messer YaronHagit Messer-Yeron is a full professor at the School of Electrical Engineering, Tel Aviv University. She acquired her academic degree at Tel Aviv University and in 1986, after a post-doctorate at Yale University, she joined Tel Aviv University as a faculty member. In addition to her formal activity in the academy, she is interested and engaged in the advancement of women in science and technology, in science policy and higher education, and in ethical issues of science, research and development.
Prof. Messer-Yeron's main field of research is statistical signal processing, with applications for locating and detecting emitters using an array of receivers, and for communication systems. Prof. Messer-Yeron served as an editor in international newspapers in her field of research, published over a dozen articles in newspapers and over a hundred in relevant conferences, was invited to be a guest at leading research institutions in the world, and mentored about 60 master's and doctoral students in signal processing. In 1996 she was selected as the outstanding lecturer of the Faculty of Engineering and in 2000 she was awarded the rank of FELLOW of the International Association of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, IEEE, for her contribution to research in her field of expertise.
At the same time as her academic activity in research, teaching, guiding graduate students and in various university positions, Prof. Messer-Yeron engaged in consulting for industry in Israel on signal processing issues.
Between the years 1996-1999 served as a member of the Authority for Public Services - Electricity, and during
1.2.200-31.3.2003 was the chief scientist and head of the Science Directorate at the Ministry of Science, Culture and Sports. In this position, she was required, among other things, to lead issues in science policy and its implementation in Israel, as well as issues related to Israel's international science relations.
Prof. Messer-Yeron served on a variety of councils, committees and forums in Israel and around the world, including: the National Council for the Advancement of Women in Science and Technology, which she initiated and established; The UNESCO Science Committee in Israel (Chairman), the Board of Directors of the USA Israel BSF Science Foundation (Chairman); and in various committees of the European community, including the steering committee of the Israeli link to the European framework program.
Currently, Prof. Messer-Yeron serves as the head of the Porter School of Environmental Studies at Tel Aviv University, and on a variety of committees related to her academic activity at the university and other public bodies related to this activity.
