Every summer, divers on the shores of the Mediterranean suffer from the stings of the wandering jellyfish, a jellyfish that migrated to the Mediterranean Sea through the Suez Canal. There are many other migrants who have crossed the channel and their impact on the marine environment is not a source of satisfaction for fishermen and marine researchers.

A completely different wanderer was spotted off the coast of Herzliya last year and attracted the attention of researchers all over the world, On the island off the coast of Herzliya they witnessed a performance that had not been seen in the Mediterranean Sea for more than 300 years. The one that appeared was a gray whale, members of its kind were hunted and exterminated, only a few representatives remained in the Pacific Ocean, representatives that, following the protection of the large mammals, multiplied and today constitute a healthy population.

Apparently the gray whale in the Pacific Ocean is a different subspecies from the one in the Atlantic, therefore it is estimated that the whale seen in Herzliya was a member of the Pacific Ocean population that took advantage of the melting of the ice in the Arctic Circle to migrate from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea, after it was seen in Herzliya a gray whale was reported against The beaches of Spain (probably the same detail). The chance for a single individual (or a small population) to survive since the 18th century without being discovered... negligible.

So is the chance for a single individual to migrate from the Pacific Ocean through the Indian Ocean around South Africa. In order to migrate from the North Pacific Ocean to the North Atlantic Ocean, two main factors are necessary, the first: the possibility of passage is necessary - ice melting that will open the maritime passage from west to east, the second factor... a reason for migration: currents, food, etc.
It turns out that both factors exist: from year to year larger areas of ice melt and open the passage connecting the northern parts of the Pacific Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean. The crossings are characterized by currents directed to the east and thus tiny creatures are swept eastward - tiny creatures are plankton (zoo and phyto) that serve as the basis of the food chain in the oceans. In the wake of the tiny creatures migrate fish and mammals that until today were not in the North Atlantic or disappeared from it a long time ago.

This is probably the story of the gray whale seen on the shores of Herzliya, which took advantage of the melting of the ice in the Arctic Circle and followed the abundance and exit of new sources of food, since following the melting of the ice there is what researchers describe as a "marine invasion" that endangers the fish populations in the Atlantic Ocean.

The vanguard of the invasion is probably algae: (Neodenticula seminae) which belonged to the large group of phytoplankton, according to evidence from fossils there has been no algae in the Atlantic Ocean for 800 thousand years. Today there is an acceleration close to New York and the researchers define the opening of the passage through the ice as "opening Pandora's box", since many species that have moved from west to east will damage the marine balance and the equilibrium that exists in the Atlantic Ocean.

Upheavals in ocean life are documented by researchers from many research institutes and are studied as part of a project Climate Change Impacts on Marine Ecosystems: Research Results. Researchers participating in the project emphasize the danger "in the flow of species to the east" and say that the new migrants will compete with local species such as salmon, cod and others.

Because of the directions of the wind and the currents (to the east) the invasion is one-way, that is, from the Pacific to the Atlantic, unlike the whale that swims under its own power, the jellyfish that "loves" cold could not have arrived in any other way but only with the help of the currents in the Arctic Circle. Fossil evidence shows that the last time there was a species transition between the Pacific and Atlantic oceans was about two million years ago.

A period in which a major invasion occurred that completely changed the ecosystem in the North E. Atlantic. In addition to the western invasion, it was found that many species move north (when the water warms).

The number of fish species in the North Sea increased from 60 to 80 in less than 20 years, since one of the reasons for the publication of the report was the appearance of the whale in Herzliya, the researchers continue and refer to the Mediterranean Sea and say that because of the warming and because the Mediterranean Sea is a closed basin where there are no cold lovers escape space. 75 species will be endangered and six will become extinct! In other words: in addition to the danger posed by the "Lessepsian invasion" (through the Suez Canal), in addition to the wild fishing that harms fish populations, warming is a real danger to life in the Mediterranean.

Is it necessary to mention that the time has come that instead of controlling the environment for the sake of the human population, there will be control of the human population for the sake of the environment!

  1. "Is it necessary to mention that the time has come that instead of controlling the environment for the sake of the human population, there will be control of the human population for the sake of the environment!"

It is necessary to mention that we will not allow global fascism to happen.

  2. Simple man:
Do you want your children to be able to live?
And what about your grandchildren? your great-grandchildren? their great-grandchildren?

    So what is this nonsense?!

  3. For the common man:

Beyond the fact that your proposal encourages defeatist and passive behavior, it also goes against the evolution in which you are so on the side.

Evolution dictates the principle that fits its environment - it survives.

The behavior of humans so far has been working against our chances of survival as a species, and any attempt to improve it is an attempt to adapt ourselves better to our environment.

Therefore, the efforts that human beings invest in improving their environmental conduct are actually a natural course of evolution.

I will not go into the added value of the human desire to preserve the environment, which is a social, humane and moral value, because it is already outside the scope of your claim.

    Good Day.

  4. Simple man: whether man will become extinct or not has nothing to do with evolution. Your thinking is wrong and incorrect. Evolution did not guarantee that man would be created and certainly not extinct. Evolution caused the circumstances that happened to the development of man. There is no stage in evolution where man will destroy himself or something will happen and he will become extinct, man is a highly intelligent creature, our fate is only up to us. Example: Describe to you a case where the person really destroys himself. And a second case where another intelligent race guides us and makes us prosper and then we didn't destroy ourselves. Destiny is not in the hands of evolution. Unless we can't break the light speed limit then we'll be in trouble once the conditions on Earth are not suitable for life.

  5. Answer
If the human environment is destroyed as a result of human actions - then this is a stage in the evolution of life.
This can be compared to the extinction events that happened on Earth and after which a new biological diversity was created.

You and I would not be writing here if a meteor had crashed in the Yucatan about 65 million years ago and if it had not been
The oxidation disaster occurs 600-700 million years ago and without it the great extinction would not have occurred as a result
Probably emitting gamma rays about 225 million years ago..

In short, life is short - like the blink of an eye in geological terms - live it well my friend - enjoy every moment before the time you are given to live on earth ends.

  6. True, man is another species that multiplied after eliminating the restrictions (diseases, living conditions, etc.), just remember that man depends on his environment. No other species has affected the living conditions of other species like humans, nor has it changed its environment and the environment of other species like humans. If the environment is destroyed, of course man will also become extinct both from an evolutionary and philosophical point of view. According to the data we are on a safe way there. I wouldn't be proud to contribute to that.

  7. From an evolutionary point of view of the animals on earth and from a philosophical point of view - humans are another whole in the evolution of life on earth and therefore human products should not be taken seriously unless they are another evolutionary influence on the earth.
That is why - the calls for the reduction of greenhouse gases, the use of non-polluting fuels and more are in the possession of BLT.
I personally do not actually use all the "green" products and encourage at every opportunity the continuation of the normal behavior of humans, including the use of greenhouse gases and "polluting" fuels.
