In a study conducted at the Dana-Farber Cancer Center in Boston by researchers from Harvard University, tissue cultures of malignant lymph cells and the effect of a substance called resveratrol on them were examined. Resveratrol is a plant-derived chemical found in various plants including grape skins and red wine, which contains antioxidants. The results of the study showed that resveratrol inhibited the reproduction process of the tumor cells and even caused their death, without affecting blood cells in the environment. It was also found that when combining different drugs against the disease, resveratrol increased the toxic activity of the drugs against the tumor cells. The study was published in the journal Clinical Cancer Research.

This study joins a recently published comprehensive review article on resveratrol. As part of the research, dozens of studies conducted in laboratory cultures and laboratory animals were reviewed. The results of the study show that the substance is found to inhibit the development of stomach cancer cells, bowel cancer, lung cancer, esophageal cancer, prostate cancer and more. Regarding the action of resveratrol on breast cancer as a cancer inhibitor, the issue is still controversial.

"These studies indicate the effectiveness of the substance resveratrol and its effect as reducing the number of cancer cells under laboratory conditions. From here, the way is paved for the continuation of the research among patients in the hope of finding a substance with which cancer can be inhibited," explains Prof. Robinson. "Ahead of the Seder night, when it is commanded to drink 4 glasses, it is important to mention that excessive drinking of alcohol has been found to increase the risk of various types of cancer, including tumors of the upper respiratory and digestive tracts. It is advisable to combine drinking grape juice on Seder night. The association's recommendation is not to exceed one serving per day. A daily portion is defined as a glass of wine - 200 ml.
