Earth Day - April 22, 2012

Today, April 22, is Earth Day, the day used to increase awareness for the protection of the Earth's natural environment. Earth Day was celebrated for the first time in the USA in 1970 by Senator Gerald Nelson and became an international day 20 years later in an event celebrated simultaneously in 141 countries. In Israel, the event was brought forward by a whole month due to the Passover holiday.

Today, the Earth Day Network organizes the events of the day and it is noted in 175 countries every year. In 2009, the United Nations designated April 22 as International Mother Earth Day.
Many and varied topics are related to the issue of environmental quality and are dealt with by countless environmental organizations around the world: air and water quality, forest conservation, protection of endangered animals, use of clean substitutes to create energy, paper, glass and plastic recycling and of course - global warming.
NASA, which annually celebrates Earth Day, decided to distribute the five most important images of the Earth taken by the 13 spacecraft pointing their cameras at the Earth as well as many research aircraft of the agency on the NASA website as well as on Twitter and Facebook. NASA's collective eyes have provided the ability for pioneering scientists to see our planet around the clock to better understand how it works.
This is more than just a spectacular view of the Earth. NASA's advanced scientific spacecraft are dedicated to uncovering the complex factors that drive Earth's climate system and provide benefits to society in areas such as disaster management, weather forecasting and agriculture.

  1. The photo of Ireland on St. Patrick's Day in 2011, is very moving to me. Because on that day, there was an early Purim party for me and 2 other talented young people who were born 4 and 17 years before, on March XNUMX, Saint Patrick's Day.
There was a really cool, one-year, one-animal party at the cooperative club at 49 Ben Yehuda Tel Aviv. which closed already at the beginning of 2012. After that I went with my girlfriend to drink a beer at Mandelimos, and the Irish pub, Molly Blooms was really full of people celebrating the holiday :)…

  2. There should be an earth week. A day is not long enough, we won't make people forget to keep the ball. Like the song that won't stop spinning

  3. Every two days is a day of something. A few years ago there was a special day for a day with nothing

  4. What do you mean, what do we do on Earth Day?!?
Turn off the electricity for 5 minutes, and save "a lot" of pollution.

By the way, in Israel a decrease of 3.9% was measured relative to the average of that period. A decrease of 3.9% in those 5 minutes..
The electricity company stated that there was no decrease in electricity generation, since they generated electricity as usual according to estimates. (In other words, creating 3.9%~ electricity for nothing. And the pollution was plus or minus like every day) lol. patty

  5. Great photos.
The video is quite crazy, after all it is known that our world has only existed for 6000 years. According to Judaism the world will cease to exist in less than 300 years, and pure, basic and conventional science ignores the world of religion and spirit.
    : )

  6. It is good that there is such an important day that cares for the earth and the environment
