Dr. Taleb Mukari, senior lecturer (and award winner), in the Department of Chemistry and the Elsa Katz Institute for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology at Ben-Gurion University, was appointed as a member of the Young Academy within the framework of the Israel Academy of Sciences. He received a message about this these days from the president of the academy, Prof. Ruth Arnon.

Dr. Mukari recently won a prestigious grant from the Research Council of the European Union (ERC-, in the amount of 1.5 million euros, for his contribution in the development of special nanostructures for the production of green energy at a low cost and effective, for a period of five years. Dr. Mukari completed his studies for a bachelor's and master's degree in chemistry from the Hebrew University and continued He completed his doctoral studies under the guidance of Prof. Uri Benin from the same department and graduated with honors in 2006. After that, he went to the University of California-Berkeley for a post-doctoral period as a Fulbright scholar and winner of the Ilan Ramon Award for one year. In 2007, he joined the research team of the American National Laboratory in Berkeley as an independent researcher until 2009. Since then, Dr. Mukari is a senior lecturer in the chemistry department at Ben-Gurion University.

Dr. Mukari is, as mentioned, an award-winning researcher: in 2004 he won the Korapas Prize, the Eshkol Scholarship from the Ministry of Science (2005-2007), the Intel Prize (2005), the Kay Prize for Innovations (2005), the Israel Chemical Society Prize (2006), Shmuliuk for an outstanding doctoral thesis (2007), Fulbright post-doctoral scholarship (2006-2007), Ilan Ramon Award for the most outstanding Fulbright Scholar (2006), Eupak Award for Chemistry (2006), Dean's Award for the Faculty of Natural Sciences for an outstanding young researcher-University Ben-Gurion (2010), Ma'uf scholarship for the reception of outstanding scientists (2011) and the Krill Award for excellence in scientific research for 2011.

    I am very proud of Professor Mukari, especially because I understand how difficult it is to excel in a society where the default associated with the word Arab is 'enemy'.
