Prof. Don Hearn from the Department of Musicology at the Hebrew University was elected a member of the American Academy

Prof. Hearn joins 195 new members, including two former presidents of the USA, the president of the US Supreme Court, a Nobel Prize laureate and several Pulitzer Prize winners

The American Academy of Arts and Sciences announced the election of Prof. (Emeritus) Don Hearn from the Department of Musicology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem as an honorary member of the Academy for 2006.

Prof. Hearn joins 195 new members, including two former presidents of the USA, the president of the US Supreme Court, a Nobel Prize laureate and several Pulitzer Prize winners.

Prof. Haran, born in the USA, member of the Department of Musicology at the Hebrew University since 1966. Haran published dozens of books and articles and won many awards and honorary degrees in Israel and abroad for his research work; Today he is known as one of the leading researchers in his field.

Among the fields of his research, which extends from the fifteenth century to the beginning of the eighteenth century, is the Renaissance, in the broadest sense of the term. In his work he places special emphasis on Jewish musical creation at the beginning of the modern era, including women as poets and composers, rabbis and their speculations on music and early composers.

The members chosen by the American Academy of Arts and Sciences for 2006 include former US presidents George Bush Sr. and Bill Clinton; actor and film director Martin Scorsese; and the president and director of the Louvre Museum in Paris, Henri Louret.
