The Israeli information security giant, Check Point, partnered with Tel Aviv University to establish a research institute in the field of information security. The institute, under the auspices of the school of computer science at the university, will be managed by a joint board of directors, on behalf of Check Point and the university faculty, and will be financed by both bodies. The scope of the investment in opening the institute is estimated at millions of shekels.

According to the agreement signed at the end of last week, the bulk of the funding will be invested in research grants for students and doctoral students and the establishment of laboratories for research in the field of information security. The institute will be managed by Professor Ran Canty, currently a researcher at IBM laboratories and a lecturer at MIT in Boston, USA. The research institute will enable the financing of dozens of academic works in the various fields of information security, and the establishment of a sophisticated research laboratory. Academic conferences will also be held as part of it with the participation of leading experts from Israel and abroad.

"There is an extensive industry in Israel in the field of information security, the strength of which is reflected, among other things, in academia," says Dr. Dorit Dor, VP of Products at Check Point, "The goal of the research institute is to promote professional and practical academic research in the field in Israel, and to encourage students Come and study an exciting, innovative and dynamic field."

According to Prof. Zvi Galil, president of Tel Aviv University, the establishment of the institute by the Check Point company will enable the training of the future generation in the field of information security. According to him, the vision of the Check Point management is admirable, especially when the entire higher education system is in increasing budgetary distress and the number of faculty members in universities is constantly decreasing.

Prof. Amos Piatt, Head of the School of Computer Science at Tel Aviv University, noted that the strength of the State of Israel, economically, scientifically, culturally, and socially, is determined to a very large extent by the quality and ability of the school's graduates. The School of Computer Science at Tel Aviv University trains about 900 undergraduate students, 300 graduate students, and includes about 35 academic staff members. The acceptance threshold is very high, and our students all have amazing data, so our main role is to help them acquire knowledge and thinking skills" said Prof. Piatt.
