A large and lengthy study conducted with the support of the World Health Organization found that extreme use of cell phones may expose users to a higher risk of brain cancer, although the findings are inconclusive. The study was conducted by 21 researchers and included 5,000 participants from 13 countries.

"The possibility of an increased risk of some types of cancer associated with the use of cell phones still needs to be investigated more thoroughly in the future," said one of the researchers, Dr. Bruce Armstrong, from the University of Sydney.

Although the study alludes to an increased risk as a result of extreme use of cell phones, Dr. Armstrong said, he did not find a clear relationship between cell phone use and brain tumors. "The study provides some evidence that there may be an increased risk," he said. According to him, "from the point of view of public medicine, there is no proof that the number of brain tumors has increased since the use of cell phones expanded".

"I'm not telling people to stop using cell phones, but I can say that I'm not sure they're safe," said Dr. Debra Davis, professor of preventive medicine at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York, in an interview with CNN. Similar things were said by Dr. Sigal Sadavsky who conducted the research in Israel on the Six program with Oded Ben Ami this evening on Channel 2.

It should be noted that the study was based on participants who spoke an average of 150-120 minutes a month, while most users today talk on a cell phone for longer. It is also worth noting that the research was partially funded by cellular companies, and some of the researchers who criticized its findings confirmed that they received money from the cellular industry.

  1. Prof. Eitan Friedman, a cancer and genetics researcher, claims that there is no connection between the tele and cancer - it does not affect the cell and does not cause mutations. I heard in his lecture

  2. It amazes me that a site like the scientist takes the side of the media reporting that is so biased about this study. No study (!) found a connection between cell phone use and brain cancer (even the opposite was found) and only in one group out of 20 (for those who know a little about statistics: there is a strong problem of "multiple comparisons" here) a very weak connection was found (95% confidence interval for OR 1.03-1.89) which is difficult to say is statistically significant. In addition, there is a serious memory bias in this type of research that must be taken into account (people with brain cancer tend to remember more of what they think caused it)

Serious news sites (like the BBC) reported the research findings honestly, but it was probably the desire for sensationalism or simply statistical ignorance that caused the headline as in this report...

  3. The 2 networks have a similar transmission power of 2 watts, the modulation is different and so is the bandwidth, but since there is no research that proves what the difference in damage is (if any), then it is impossible to compare. The 3rd generation frequency (2 gigabytes) is higher in Israel than the 2nd generation (900 and 1800 megabytes), but even there there is not so much information about the effect on living cells.
It can also be said that the power control in generation 3 is better, and the modulation method allows the transmission of the same information at a lower power (due to stronger error correction in generation 3). Also studies show that in the 2nd generation the power control usually results in transmission at maximum power and there is no good utilization
That is, at the same distance and under similar conditions, the 3rd generation device will transmit weaker.

By the way, if there are more antennas, the devices will transmit weaker - this is factually true. Abroad they are already starting to work with home cells, this lowers the power significantly.

  4. If the research was funded by the cellular companies, then I am sure that the true results are tens of times worse than the published data.

The real question is - which network is less harmful? Generation 3+ or 2+

  5. Is anyone willing to give data, for example - what is the probability of getting a cancerous brain tumor??
If you don't have numerical data, what does it matter if there is an increase of 10% or 200%?

Walking with an umbrella increases the chance of being struck by lightning, then?

  6. If a study does not find a clear correlation, then there is no risk
Doing research to find a correlation
You don't take 5000 people and at the end say there is still no "distinct ratio" for nothing

  7. Lasaf: Yes, you're right, I know. Maybe I got a little carried away in my response,
But it's still annoying to see the push of the cell phone to every soft spot in the years,
Whether or not the radiation is dangerous or not. Give the children a ball, rubber and chalk to the class,
Let them be a little children...

  8. Slow down straw man. Before you call the welfare services, you will have to prove that the use is indeed dangerous, which decades of research have not yet proven.
On the other hand, studies have proven that energy-efficient light bulbs are carcinogenic, and that transformers (also domestic) are carcinogenic. Will you call the welfare services even when the mother (the postma?) installs an energy-saving light bulb in the house, which is more dangerous? Or when you connect the organic transformer to the child? I doubt.

  9. 50 years of research on the link between cigarettes and cancer and coronary heart disease
They didn't make people stop smoking, quite the opposite, so this study is what will
People talk less??? Good luck with the attempt to get the Israeli's cell phone off the Internet...
And if I ever see a six-year-old boy talking on a 3.5 generation cell phone next to his posthumous mother
who smiles at him and encourages him, I call the welfare services!
