The head of NASA calls on researchers and companies from Israel to participate in experiments on the space station, and in the development of capabilities for a flight to Mars

During his visit to the Givatayim Observatory and his lecture at Bar Ilan University, Bolden said that NASA plans to send people around the moon and possibly even land on it, in the next decade (the 2020s), in preparation for a manned flight to Mars, according to President Barack Obama's vision in the XNUMXs. Today Bolden will receive an honorary doctorate from Bar Ilan University

The head of NASA, Charles Bolden, who is visiting Israel these days, calls on researchers and companies from Israel to participate in experiments on the space station, and in the development of capabilities for a flight to Mars.

During his visit yesterday (Monday) to the Givatayim Observatory and in his lecture at Bar Ilan University, Bolden said that NASA plans to send people to orbit the moon and possibly even land on it, in the next decade (the 2020s), in preparation for a manned flight to Mars, according to President Barack Obama's vision in the XNUMXs. Tomorrow Bolden will receive an honorary doctorate from Bar Ilan University.

"I had a conversation before we came here with the Minister of Science and the heads of the Israeli Space Agency and I am excited about the potential of doing experiments on the International Space Station, and then, what we call exiting the area dependent on the Earth (such as the International Space Station and the satellites) to the area associated with the moon's gravity in the twenties. We will do this together with our international partners, and our business partners (the private space industry AB). I hope that the Israeli students and researchers will play a role in this journey - especially the development of technologies that we still lack in order to maintain a human presence in space for a long period of time."

"President Obama challenged NASA to send humans to Mars in the 14s. It's not that long, there's a total of 15 years until then. Those who will fly to Mars will no longer be members of my generation or your generation, but of those who are children under the age of 400 today, who will be the scientists of tomorrow and to whom we will pass the baton. President Obama calls them "the Martians". They did not know a time when there was no continuous stay of humans in space - at least two people - from NASA and Russia in the space station floating at a height of 2011 km above the surface of the earth. This is an achievement that is not recognized that much, because we are accused of abandoning manned space flights after the end of the space shuttle project in XNUMX."

"We are launching new initiatives under the framework program we signed on the sidelines of the World Astronautics Congress in Jerusalem in October 2015."

"The State of Israel is full of people with an entrepreneurial and innovative nature. You are innovative people and you always work at the cutting edge of technology, which is something we will need in the journey to Mars. From our perspective at NASA. In recent years we have been encouraging our international partners to assist us in our journey to Mars. When I first met Prof. Daniel Hershkowitz (now President of Bar-Ilan University), when he was in his position as Minister of Science, when I took office - seven years ago, no one at NASA talked about Mars; if they did, they only said that it was very expensive and dangerous. Today we are free to talk about it. Indeed it will be very expensive and very dangerous. It will indeed cost but in terms of return on investment it will be cheap. Indeed, the risk is great, every time you leave the earth, but all of you would like to fly in spite of that."

"He quoted Ilan Ramon who said during his trip on the space shuttle Columbia that for the first two days he tried to look for his neighborhood and then he surveyed Israel's surroundings but in the end he realized that the entire earth is one unit.

During this journey, I will have the opportunity to discuss NASA's journey to Mars with the Minister of Science, Technology and Space Ofir Akunis, the heads of the Israel Space Agency (ISA) (Chairman Prof. Yitzhak Ben Israel and the new CEO Avi Blasberger AB) , Israeli inventors, students and entrepreneurs. I will also meet students from Israel and Jordan participating in the Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment (GLOBE) science and education initiative, of which NASA is a proud partner. I am also traveling to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to meet with colleagues at the Union Space Agency. And to finish I will participate in the conference of the European Space Agency Council in Paris. One of the main issues at NASA today is the exploration of Mars.

"The existence of manned missions to Mars requires extensive collaborations between governments, industries, academic research institutes and scientists, and I am interested in examining how Israel can promote research efforts related to Mars. NASA has a fruitful collaboration with the Israeli government and the Israeli Space Agency and we look forward to continued innovative collaborations."

Addressing the audience to answer their questions, Bolden said there is no such thing as a stupid question. Anyone can ask anything that interests them and indeed one of the participants took advantage of this and asked what Bolden knows about the aliens that NASA has in Area 51, in light of Hillary Clinton's announcement (according to him) that if she is elected she will reveal the aliens that are there. "If she is elected, I will call her and ask."

Minister of Science, Ofir Akunis: "This is another important visit that will strengthen the cooperation between Israel and the USA.

Israeli space research is of utmost importance and a tremendous contribution. Israel cherishes the memory of the late Ilan Ramon, the first Israeli astronaut, and I believe in the contribution of an Israeli astronaut - or an Israeli astronaut - in the next manned missions to space."

  1. There is indeed truth in Yossi's words. This is the president that the Americans chose, and we have to get along with him. It is not wise to be arrogant, and "educate" the president and the American citizens.

  2. He tried and maybe succeeded in pulling the US out of recession. There are aggravating objective circumstances.
He managed to breathe life into the growing nation in front of the Chinese, by keeping intellectual property in the USA and by exploiting the cultural gap and from it creativity.
In the political aspect, there were no failures in Arab countries, and in Arab the government tried with all its might to repair the damage of Daesh, but by strengthening Shia Islam and also trailing behind Putin. He is a combination not only of bad but also of good.

Today, the US is developing breakthrough technologies in space and Israel is not, and this is an opportunity to jump. Plasma engines and laser engines, and settlement technology in a new world.

  3. Obama's eight years in the White House will soon end. Remind me what he did to promote space exploration? How many budgets did he allocate? How many exploration missions will come to fruition as a result of his policy?

So what is evident from the article on Wikipedia is that he mainly engaged in speeches, and even promised at some point to give another 6 billion dollars in five years to NASA (or vice versa). In fact, he dealt with cuts in all kinds of programs and reducing the goals. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_policy_of_the_Barack_Obama_administration

That's how you don't land a man on Mars in 14 years. At most it is an instructive demonstration of scratching the balls.

  4. The arms industries should expand their range of activities, because there was not always a demand for their existing products. And try to expand into the field of space, not just satellites - perhaps it would be worthwhile to promote stronger cooperation with countries with large space programs such as NASA
