A prize package valued at approximately 50 dollars will be awarded to one of the ventures of the life sciences industry during the "ILSI - Biomed Israel 2008" week, this coming May. Among the finalists: technology to replace damaged heart tissue with engineered tissue, an implant that treats atrial fibrillation in the heart, and a product that helps reconstruct the cruciate ligament in the knee. The purpose of the national competition: encouraging the transformation of high-potential ventures into a profitable biomedical industry.

In order to encourage excellence in the Israeli biomed industry, the Red Biomed Incubator initiated a national competition to identify the outstanding project among life science industry ventures. One of the conditions for submitting the application is the inventions of the project in the initial stage - Pre-seed. The winning project will receive its first exposure as part of the annual international conference of the life sciences industry "ILSI - Biomed Israel 2008", which will be held this May, and will win a prize package valued at approximately 50 thousand dollars.

The projects that entered the final competition:

The Red Biomed Incubator is a pioneering initiative of the Red Computer Communications Group. It began its journey in Israel in 1992, at the initiative of the brothers Yehuda and Zahar Zisafel and under the auspices of the Office of the Chief Scientist of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The company is located in Tel Aviv and focuses on fostering initiatives in various aspects of the life sciences: biotechnology, drug development, medical devices, diagnostics, and drug delivery. There are currently 7 companies in the incubator period operating between its walls: Immunarei, Ricogen, Cytogen, Impedi-Gide, Terazum, Agzyme, and AO Pharma, and 5 more mature companies: Protrac, Maimonidex, Steadimed, Ario Medica and Flexiprove.

"ILSI - Biomed Israel 2008" week is the main event of the life sciences industry. It will be held this year (this is the seventh time) between May 27 and 29 at David Intercontinental and Dan Panorama in Tel Aviv. Biomed week includes an international professional conference starring the best experts, and an exhibition, presenting the hottest medical innovations. This year, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the State of Israel, a central stage will be given to 70 Israeli start-up companies, the most advanced in the industry, both in the field of biopharma and in the field of medical devices. At the same time, two other events will be held: the 2nd International Conference on Stem Cell Research, and the ISRACAS 2008 Conference, the 11th Conference on Computer-Based Surgery, Medical Robotics and Medical Imaging. The Israeli Biomed Week is documented to attract, again this year, approximately 6,000 CEOs and executives of Biomed companies, scientists and researchers, managers of venture capital funds and private investors (Angels), from Israel and abroad.
