At the initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Israel will host in Jerusalem starting August 26.8 the most important prestigious annual gathering in the world of science for young people: the "Asian Science Camp - ASC", the most important scientific meeting in the world to promote young scientists from around Asia and the Pacific,

About 300 young people from around Asia will participate in the conference, led by Nobel laureates from Asia and Israel.
The conference has been held for six years - each year in a different Asian country - and this year the State of Israel managed to convince the participating countries to hold the conference in Israel. The Foreign Ministry emphasizes that this is a very important political achievement. It should be noted that some countries do not have diplomatic relations with Israel.

The Science Camp, or "Peak of Geniuses", is the result of the initiative of a number of Nobel Prize laureates for science from East Asia who set as their goal to create a platform to locate and promote the future generation of Asian scientists and to create a cross-border and national connection between them through the universal language of basic science.

Bringing the ASC, a pan-Asian forum where members of countries that do not have diplomatic relations with Israel, to take place in Israel, is in itself an important achievement that was defined as a national mission and as the flagship project of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for 2012, a project that was planned to be the culmination of the events to mark the "Year of Asia in Israel", a year Special in that Israel notes 'round years' for the establishment of its diplomatic relations with some of the largest and most important countries on the continent (China - 20 years; India - 20; Korea - 40 and Japan - 60).

The camp in Israel, which is led by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in cooperation with the Hebrew University and the ORT network, will be held in Jerusalem in the last week of August, at the same time as the opening of the school year, with most of its activities being divided between the two campuses of the Hebrew University and it will offer its participants heaps of basic/theoretical science In the fields of physics, chemistry, life sciences and brain and mathematics, from the best scientific minds in their fields in Israel and the world. Also, the camp is planned to offer guests a unique and diverse Israeli experience.

At the camp, the participants will be taught and guided by five Nobel Prize laureates from Israel and abroad, including Prof. Lee Yuan-Ti, Nobel Laureate in Chemistry from Taiwan and one of the founders of the ASC and Prof. Kobayashi, Nobel Laureate in Physics from Japan and the chairman of the ASC Advisory Committee.
It will also be attended by the Israeli Nobel laureates Aharon Chachanover and Israel Oman, as well as the Nobel laureate in physics, the American Jew Roger Cronenberg.

In addition to them, 30 of the most senior and leading Israeli scientists in their field in the world will teach and guide at the camp, including winners of the Wolf Prize for Science, the winner of the prestigious Fields Medal and the Turing Prize (the "Nobel" of mathematics and computer science respectively). The Israeli delegation to the conference consists of 35 young men and women (the largest delegation), brilliant Jews and Arabs from all over the country who were carefully selected in light of clear criteria of excellence in science. And "you can bet/estimate" from whom the next generation of Israeli novelists will grow.

Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Rafi Barak, who worked to get the camp approved in Israel and to raise a budget from various government ministries for its existence, said: "It is important for the State of Israel to bring about the comprehensive and extensive participation of as many countries as possible and despite the short time we had at our disposal, the gathering in Israel will be the largest in terms of the number of participants So far, "Israeli diplomacy", says Barak, "has been working to strengthen and deepen ties with Asian countries, centered on important countries such as China, India, Japan and Korea, as part of long-term planning. In this sense, the importance of bringing the best scientific minds of tomorrow, some of whom will surely become leaders of public opinion in their countries, is clear, and therefore the great importance of the science camp and its contribution to the continued building of Israel's image and positioning in Asian countries."

Professor Menachem Ben Sasson, president of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem - within the framework of which most of the camp's activities will take place - noted that the Hebrew University, a world-renowned academic institution, is proud to take a central part in a national project of such great importance and is happy about the cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. "Hosting the Asian Science Camp is a great opportunity to deepen Israel's positive image in the fields of academia and science, as well as to create connections between young people who will lead scientific research in their countries and connect them to Israeli academia while they are still young. The university sees the conference as an excellent opportunity to deepen its exposure to Asia in order to attract many students and researchers to Israel and to encourage research collaboration with leading institutions in those countries." "I am confident," noted Prof. Ben-Shashon, "that the Israeli spirit of thought that breaks boundaries, creativity, education for curiosity, asking questions and doubting, inherent in the way of teaching and the drive for excellence that the Hebrew University imparts to its students will stick with the brilliant guests from Asia and that they will come out of their studies with us at University".

Physicist Dr. Zvi Peltiel from the Ort network, the official representative of the ASC in Israel, who accompanied the Israeli delegations to the camps held in previous years and who promoted the idea of holding the conference in Israel, noted in this context that "this is not only a good opportunity to bring the future scientists of Asia to experience Israel, but also an opportunity to expose the best science-seeking young people in Israel to the important scientific gathering, we hope that the camp, which will be held at the same time as the opening of the school year and its comprehensive exposure, will be an incentive, encouragement and a big push for the field of scientific education in Israel as a whole."

  1. It is not clear from the article what the characteristic academic profile of the conference participants is.
Are these outstanding and promising high school students and graduates? Do you have a bachelor's degree?
Master's degree ? Doctoral students and young doctors? Or maybe (and mainly) family members
Affluent and intimates who will receive a respectable and subsidized trip and hospitality?
And... what are the topics of the conference? What will the lectures focus on?

  2. See if you give a small seedling some water every week it will grow into a tree
If you don't, he will die.

We need friends and friends wherever we can get them
And especially in countries with which we have no political ties

Korea, China, India, these are the powers of the future, it is good that we maintain relations with them

  3. I'm starting to lose interest in these conventions,
I can assure you that the 300 smartest people in the world are not there and will not get close to there.
It reminds me of this organization "for the wise only", it contributes to the world just as much as the "Beauty Queen" competition, maybe less.
I don't know what benefit there is to the State of Israel for these to meet on its soil, but I can assure you, that this organization is simply not worth it.
