Will replace Alfred Akirov in his position after six years in office
Cellcom CEO Amos Shapira was elected president of the Friends' Association of Tel Aviv University and will replace Alfred Akirov after six years in office.
Amos Shapira: "I consider it a great privilege to be chosen for this honorable position and consider it a mission. There is no disputing that the human resource is the almost unique asset that the State of Israel has in its struggle for its existence and its ability to compete with other economies. In this mission the university as an academic research and teaching institution is of utmost importance I will do as much as I can to help from my experience and to mobilize the business community for this mission."
Prof. Zvi Galil, the president of the university, thanked Alfred Akirov for the six years he served as president of the association, and congratulated Amos Shapira on his election. Galil added that the university faces important goals such as the branding of the university and the cultivation of graduates and he is sure that Shapira will be able to contribute a lot to the realization of these goals.
Dov Lautman, the chairman of the university's executive board, also thanked Akirov and said that the choice of Amos Shapira is an excellent choice for this public position. "It is important that the university be part of the community in which it sits. The university needs many friends to strengthen its reputation in society," he added.
