The international "Quality of the Environment 2002" exhibition will be held this year between December 17-19, 2002, at the exhibition grounds, Tel Aviv. As part of the exhibition, which is being held for the second time in Israel, a variety of technological solutions to preserve the quality of the environment and reduce industrial pollution damage will be revealed for the first time. "Environment 2002", will bring together most of the leading factors in the industry, and will be a meeting place for manufacturers, planners, researchers and developers, investors, procurement personnel and decision makers. At the same time as the exhibition, conferences and professional events on ecology and environmental issues will be held, the main event will be the 32nd annual conference of the Israeli Society for Ecology and Environmental Sciences, the second annual conference of the Israel Water Association, the local government conference on environmental issues and an ecotourism conference. Also, for the first time, as part of the exhibition, there will be an awarding ceremony for the "Environmental Quality Volunteer" award, which will be awarded by the Minister, a special gathering of the National Council for the Environment and meetings of the green bodies. At the same time as the exhibition in Tel Aviv, the "Recycling Week" will be held in Jerusalem, which will include recycling activities organized by the Magashim Center Association. First exposure to the "green garage" project in Israel
Grinal Ecology Company will unveil the "Green Garage" project for the first time. The goal of the project, which is being carried out in collaboration with the Garage Association and the Ministry of Environmental Quality, is to provide a comprehensive solution to the issue of collecting and recycling used oil filters from garages and car workshops. According to the data of the Ministry of the Environment, a significant part of the approximately 4 million oil filters that are thrown into the garbage every year and tens of tons of mineral oil that dripped onto the ground created serious environmental pollution.
In surprise inspections conducted by the ministry's representatives in recent months, at garages throughout the country, it was found that 90% of the garages do not comply with the instructions and regulations, which require the removal of used oil filters to the toxic waste site in Ramat Hovav, or to an approved recycling facility.
As part of the "Green Garage" project, it was decided to address the 2 most pressing problems:
Regulated removal of used oil filters from garages and workshops and their recycling and installation of standard oil separators in garages and their maintenance. The managers of the project, which has already started operating in the field, report that compared to 2001, during which only about 15000 filters were collected in an unregulated manner, from the beginning of the project's activity until now, about 150000 filters have been collected. By the end of 2003, it is estimated that approximately one million four hundred thousand filters will be collected.
The filters are currently collected in special collection containers. Once a month they are collected by a standard truck for the transportation of hazardous materials that transports them to a collection point for recycling. The filters are disassembled into their components - metal oil and paper, recycled and returned to the industry as raw material.
The head of the hazardous materials division at the Ministry of the Environment, Michal Bar Tov, stated that in Israel, about 45,000 tons of oil for vehicle needs are sold every year, of which about 25,000 tons and about 3 million oil filters can be collected in garages. Today, anyone convicted of a violation of the used oil regulations faces six months in prison or a fine of NIS 9,600.

The Waterless Israel company will reveal the WATERMAKER facility (registered trademark) that enables the production of pure drinking water from the air. The facilities were brought to Israel following a distribution agreement signed last month between Waterless and the manufacturer of the facility and the owner of the patent, the American company AWT, which has been operating for several years in the production of water in countries where there is a quality problem or water shortage, mainly in Central Africa and Arab countries.
The principle of operation in the facility is extremely simple: normal air is drawn into it through an electrostatic filter that separates dust particles and pollution from the air. The filtered air passes through cooled condensing coils and thus droplets are formed that flow to a collection tank. The dry air is blown out. The water itself passes through a natural charcoal filter and through an ultraviolet lamp that improves the taste of the water and destroys pollutants. At this point the pure water without any aftertaste is ready to drink. "These are infinite reservoirs of water in the air," says Danny Carney, CEO of Waterless. "The water is low in minerals, which according to one of the Tibetan concepts, this water is the healthiest for purifying the body from toxins."
The home facility is intended as a replacement for purchasing containers or bottles of mineral water and the company will even market larger facilities, intended mainly for areas where there is a water quality problem, or a shortage of drinking water. These facilities can even be used in emergency cases of poisoning of water sources, or water carriers. Facilities of this type are already operating today in Egypt, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and the Gulf principalities.
The facility for home use is capable of producing about 20 liters of water per day, in climate conditions of over 40 percent relative humidity and over a temperature of 15 degrees Celsius. The larger facilities are capable of producing unlimited amounts of water.
The price of the home water dispenser will vary between 6000-7500 NIS including VAT. The company will also offer the product for a monthly rent of about NIS 200 per month.

"Around the world today over ten million vehicles are moving on the roads using cooking gas, or natural gas," says Moshe Spitzer, VP of Amishragaz. "The great advantage of burning gas, natural or condensed hydrocarbons, comes from high efficiency through better utilization of the fuel, which is manifested in a drastic reduction of pollutant emissions and especially of the pollutants responsible for the smog that harms the respiratory tract."
According to Spitzer, driving with LPG reduces the emission of carbon monoxide by 75%, the emission of nitrogen oxides by 40%, the ozone-forming particles by 87%, the hydrocarbons by 85% and the carbon oxides by ten. percentage. The car that Amishragaz will present as part of the "Exhibition for Environmental Technologies" will actually be the first private car in Israel fueled by LPG. * Environmental hazards such as toxic waste water, contaminated drinking water, turbid soil and waste burial sites pose a real problem to the construction and paving industry today. In order to identify the hazards, which can ultimately result in the loss of a lot of money for investors, tests and surveys must be conducted on sites intended for construction. Isotope will present a multidisciplinary model developed by it, which is used as a quick and accurate tool for locating and characterizing sources of pollution, the trends of its spread and the method of treatment required to bring about the recovery of the site.
* The company "Opi Technologies" will present a personal emergency kit for protection against dangerous substances.
