Tel Aviv University's Kader Award for Research Excellence for 2022 was awarded to four outstanding researchers

The criteria for selecting the winners: groundbreaking research, quality of teaching, winning research grants from competitive funds, quality and quantity of scientific publications and status in the international academic community

As part of the events of the Board of Trustees that are taking place these days, Tel Aviv University awarded the Kader Award for Research Excellence for 2022 to four outstanding researchers. The winners are Prof. Michal Feldman and Prof. Jonathan Burnett from the Blavatnik School of Computer Science, Prof. Leo Kuri and Dr. Roi Tzahar From the Lester and Sally Antin Faculty of Humanities. The prizes were awarded to the winners by the president of the university, Prof. Ariel Porat and the vice president for research, Prof. Danny Parr.

The award committee selected the winners based on the following criteria: groundbreaking research; quality of teaching; winning research grants from competitive funds; quality and quantity of scientific publications; and status in the international academic community.

About the winners

Prof. Feldman's main field of research is algorithmic game theory (AGT), located at the interdisciplinary intersection between computer science, game theory and economics. Prof. Feldman won a variety of prestigious international scholarships and grants, including two grants from the European Research Council (ERC), and was a member of the Israeli Young Academy and the Young Global Academy. She is currently the head of the Economics and Calculation Laboratory at the School of Computer Science.

As a historian of mathematics, Prof. Corey studies the development of major lines in 20th century mathematics, such as the rise of modern algebra and the development of the idea of ​​mathematical structure. Since 2013, he has been in charge of the Brett and Barbara Cohen Chair of History and Philosophy of the Exact Sciences.

Prof. Burnett's research deals with issues in the field of natural language understanding, such as turning natural language into a logical language (semantic parsing), answering questions, paraphrasing, reading comprehension and textual entailment.

Dr. Roi Tzahar is a member of the Department of South and East Asian Studies in the Faculty of Humanities. Dr. Zahar is an expert in the history of philosophy, with an emphasis on traditions in Buddhist and Brahminical philosophy in India.
