The Municipality of Rehovot and the Weizmann Institute of Science invite the residents of the city and their guests to a beer, science and mood event that will take place for the second year. Last year, the tradition was opened for the first time as part of the city's 120th anniversary celebrations, and in light of the success and demand, it was decided to continue holding the event as a tradition. This year it was expanded and about 30 scientists and research students from the Weizmann Institute of Science went out to bars, restaurants and cafes in Rehovot, where they will share with the revelers the excitement that accompanies scientific activity at the forefront of human knowledge.

The mayor, Rahamim Malol: "Rehovot is becoming very strong as a city of science and culture and this is evident both in extensive events and in the development of existing and new institutions. The event reflects the city's vision and the efforts to create collaborations with the unique experts and institutions operating in the city, which lead science and global education. Science and higher education are the main anchors of the city's uniqueness, and we all share the concept that education, and especially scientific education, is the best investment for the future.

"We thank the president of the institute for his extensive involvement and support in the city and our guests this year - the dean of the faculty and CEO of Kaplan. There is no doubt that their contribution to the city and its residents is enormous and we see them as an integral part not only of medicine, education and research, but also of the city's community."

Prof. Daniel Zeifman: "The Weizmann Institute of Science considers itself an obligation and a privilege to share scientific knowledge, and the feelings of enthusiasm for the great adventure of expanding human knowledge." The institute also informed that the project is being carried out for the second year, in collaboration with the Rehovot municipality, in accordance with the institute's vision and the mayor's policy, in the field of increasing scientific education and making science accessible to the general public.

The scientists and research students will talk about topics that occupy them in their daily lives in the research laboratories at the Weizmann Institute: about nanophysics, about dark matter, about almost infinite energy, supercomputers, the mystery of the formation of life, evolution now, the study of the brain, the mysteries of the organism; The limits of miniaturization, genetic engineering, the way in which different genes direct the development of the embryo, and other topics from the forefront of global science.

The president of the institute, Prof. Daniel Zeifman will talk to the visitors about the way stars are born in the universe, and about the possibility of life outside the Earth (Dublin); Dr. Jacob Yahav, CEO of the Kaplan Medical Center, will explain how science and medicine react to new ideas, and why ulcers are treated with antibiotics (Winona). Prof. Aharon Friedman - Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Environment of the Hebrew University will talk about genetic engineering and the food industry (Hamburg).

Following the sun - for the whole family at the Science Garden

Why is the sun so hot, while space is cold? How is a rainbow formed? Why is solar radiation dangerous? And how do you prepare sunscreen against it? All these - and many more hot facts about the sun - will be revealed to visitors during the summer activities at the Keller Science Garden at the Weizmann Institute of Science. In the months of July-August, the science garden of the Davidson Institute for Science Education offers summer activities for the whole family: guided tours, scientific demonstrations and shows, entertaining sessions and activities, and more.

During the month of July, on Monday and Thursday afternoons, there will be special activities on the topics "beyond the rainbow - the colors of the rainbow" and "from sunlight to fire - concentration of radiation". In addition, throughout the week there will be guided tours between the exhibits of the Science Garden and Eco-Sphere - the ecological complex of the Science Garden.

During the month of August, there will be a special activity every day, in the morning and afternoon hours, which will include guided tours of the garden and eco-sphere, and scientific demonstrations on topics such as cold and heat, superconductivity, and more. In addition, there will be a changing activity every week on a variety of topics related to the sun and radiation (for ages 5 and up). Every Wednesday, at 16:30 p.m., there will be a science show for children "Knowledge and Foolishness" (for ages 7-4, an additional fee of 10 NIS).

Kindergarten opening hours in July and August:
בימים ראשון-שישי: 13:00-08:30, 16:00-20:00
