Worsening of bacterial resistance to antibiotics

The scientists explained that the drugs developed in the 20th century eliminated the causes of diseases such as tuberculosis bacteria, meningitis, pneumonia as well as secondary ones - but all of them could return and be much more violent and difficult to treat and cure, since the bacteria that caused them became resistant to the drugs

In the last five years, the global pharmaceutical industry has invested 17 billion dollars in the research and development of advanced medical preparations for the treatment of infectious diseases - but this huge amount may go down the drain very quickly, if global actions are not taken against the phenomenon of resistance of the pathogens, against these drugs. In other words: the effectiveness of the antibiotics is decreasing.

This warning, which is especially serious now because of the anthrax scare and the wild consumption of antibiotic preparations - was published on behalf of the World Health Organization. Its experts pointed out that in the current situation there is a great danger to the health of future generations.

The scientists explained that the drugs developed in the 20th century eliminated the causes of diseases such as tuberculosis bacteria, meningitis, pneumonia as well as secondary ones - but all of them could return and be much more violent and difficult to treat and cure, since the bacteria that caused them became resistant to the drugs.

Among the reasons for the phenomenon: unwise and wild use of antibiotics and also extensive use of antibiotic preparations in agriculture, which worsened the problem of resistance. 50 percent of antibiotic production is currently directed to agriculture, but not to treat sick animals, but to industrial fattening and the enrichment of their feed to improve their sales to the consumer public.

Antibiotic-resistant bacteria are transferred from farm animals (cattle, chickens) to humans - scientists have warned.

Anthrax bacteria are also actually transferred from animals to humans (for example: by petting an animal carrying the bacteria in its spore form).
