Beginning in 2010, an international team of six people simulated a 520-day trip to Mars, including 30 days on Mars soil. In reality, they will live and work in a sealed facility in Moscow, Russia, so that scientists can study the medical and psychological aspects of being on a long space mission. The European Space Agency (ESA) is looking for European volunteers for the mission.

The mission is part of the Mars500 project carried out by the European Space Agency in collaboration with the Russian Institute for the Study of European Biomedical Problems (IBMP) in order to investigate the physical, physical and psychological capabilities and limitations of humans in space. The European Space Agency's decision-making board for manned spaceflight includes the project as part of a European plan to prepare future manned missions to the Moon and Mars.

Following the successful completion of the previous 105-day experiment at the facility, the European Space Agency is now looking for two volunteers and two back-up volunteers for the 250-day program that will be implemented in mid-2010 after four months of training.

The team will use a program designed to simulate a 250-day journey to Mars, 30 days of research on Mars soil, and a 240-day trip back to Earth.

Candidates should be 20-50 years old, motivated, in good health and no taller than 185 cm. They should speak one of two languages: English or Russian. Applicants should have a background and work experience in medicine, biology, first aid systems engineering, computer engineering, electronics engineering or mechanical engineering.

The choices will be based on education, professional experience, physical fitness and social lifestyle. After an initial assessment, the potential candidates will be given medical tests, interviews and put through a process similar to that used to select astronauts.

  1. I think the most suitable for the job are soldiers who served in submarines. According to what I understood, military submarines have a different "mentality" than the rest of the military and they develop social mechanisms that allow them to function for a long time inside a closed place.

  2. Regarding the title..
In the German version of the Big Brother show, the surviving housemates were locked up for a whole year in the 2004 / 2005 seasons
In last year's season 2008-2009 they survived 211 days
    : )

  3. There is a great series about the future flight to Mars, it was called Mars Rising, recommended.
