Normally, light waves do not affect each other - light waves can pass through each other without any effect on each other. Coupling between photons is possible only with the help of special materials and very intense light. Scientists in Vienna managed to create a strong coupling of two photons - an important achievement for quantum optics.
For many applications in quantum technology, interaction between photons is essential. For example, this is a necessary condition for transmitting information in quantum channels that cannot be listened to, or for building optical logic gates. Scientists at the Vienna University of Technology (TU Wien) have succeeded in making strong coupling between two single photons. The results of the experiment were published in the scientific journal Nature Photonics.
"In order for there to be an interaction between light waves, we use what is known as non-linear media," says Prof. Arno Rauschenbeutel, from the Institute of Atomic and Subatomic Physics, TU Wien. Light has an effect on the properties of these materials, and the material in turn affects the light, which leads to an indirect coupling between photons. In this technique, however, only strong light intensities can be used, when many photons are involved.
At TU Wien, a system was built that creates a strong interaction between only two photons. This interaction is so strong that the incidence of the photons changes by 180 degrees. According to Prof. Roshanbotel, this is similar to a pendulum, which is supposed to move to one side, but due to coupling with a second pendulum, it moves to the other side. There is not, and cannot be, a more radical change in the swing of the pendulum. In this way the strongest interaction is achieved with the smallest possible intensity of light.
To make this possible, the photon is sent on an improbable journey. Ultra-thin glass fibers are attached to a tiny vial-shaped resonator chamber, so that light can enter the resonator chamber, travel in circles, and return to the glass fiber. This detour through the photocell leads to a step of reversing the photon incidence by 180 degrees. When, on the other hand, a single rubidium atom is attached to the resonant cell, the system changes dramatically. Due to the presence of the atom, light almost never enters the resonance chamber and the inversion of the phenomenon does not happen. Things change when two photons arrive at the same time. The atom is an "absorbing substance" that can enter saturation. A photon is absorbed by the atom for a short time and then released into the resonant cell. At the same time, the atom cannot absorb any more photons. If two photons arrive at the same time, only one can be absorbed, while the other can still undergo an inversion.
From a quantum mechanics point of view, there is no difference between the two photons. They can only be understood as a single, wave-like object that is in the resonance chamber and the glass fiber at the same time. The photons are indistinguishable - it is not possible to say which of them is absorbed and which has passed. When the two photons hit the resonator at the same time, both of them together experienced a 180 degree change in incidence. Two interacting photons arriving at the same time exhibit completely different behavior than single photons.
"In this way, it is possible to create a situation of maximum intermixing between photons", says Prof. Roshanbetal. Such conditions are required in all fields of quantum optics - quantum teleportation, or for optical transistors, which can be used for quantum computing. A big advantage of the new system is that it is based on glass fiber technology, which is already in use in Internet communication. Glass fibers and "nanobottles" are perfectly compatible with existing technologies. The targeted creation of a strong photon-photon interaction is an important step towards a world-wide quantum information network for wiretapping-proof data transmission

I uploaded the eighth report tonight and there are two more interviews that need to be deciphered through the background noise.
I wish I had infinite patience…
my father
You don't have to take care of anything….. have fun there!
Miracles, I promise to take care when I return to Israel.

Did you see who the author of the article is?
was Created,
Your comments are also flawed by a "thin mask of excessive self-importance"
albenza,
I meant that I don't have the infinite patience you have to argue with compulsive troublemakers and just the uneducated laymen who perfume themselves to the point of not having enough...
Miracles,
If I could get a tireless chatterbox like you to respond in one sentence - that's enough for me.
was Created,
May I ask what exactly you meant by the statement "I am not Albanzo"? Except for the trivial, that you and I are not one.
ג
You referred to Science and Nature. These cost money, and are very technically in-depth.
I don't understand what you want to be here.
Miracles
Preferably, on a site that claims to be scientific-popular (even though it is related to one who repeated the question and is looking for ways to justify himself and his meandering way in front of the religious in every possible way)
There will be wording that is clear to everyone.
ג
The science is posted here because it is interesting and quite easy to understand. Did you want there to be comparisons here?
Eli
you are so innocent
Do you expect there to be science on a site that is not related to science?
You want science, go to Nature or Science.

And again you continue the discussion...
Miracles,
Not arguing but trying to enlighten. Every person needs to know his objective limitations. A watermelon seller will not be a heart surgeon even if he deals with "red juice" every day and all day. It's so simple and obvious and it's not clear why no one here points it out. The full and endless discussions are harmful to everyone - and especially to the debaters.

Why is your class having an idle argument here, exactly the kind you are mocking?
The article is not clear
Even in the original publication, nothing is clear and there is no link to any scientific article that explains something
There are also no results of experiments
mouth hole,
Who among the scholars here even understands what proof is and what evidence is? These terms are not completely clear even to the most professional of professionals in any field. On the other hand, the completely ignorant are sure that they know what evidence or proof looks like. This is a clear example of the shallow and endless discussions about nothing that are going on here. And into this slime are you trying to drag me with your "provider of evidence"? You were kidding... I'm not Albanzo.
Nabara, it doesn't read when asking for proof or at least evidence. Please provide evidence for your claims, give examples of discussions that the subject of interweaving "whose level is extremely low and their purpose is one big question mark". and that "their purpose is one big question mark". Thanks
miracles you are wrong
That's not exactly how you learn. This is the short and sure way to determine all possible mistakes and misconceptions. The endless verbiage may also make the speaker believe that he understands a matter and that his opinion on the subject has some importance, which may turn him into a compulsive troublemaker. This site is full of archaic and endless discussions under the thin guise of excessive self-importance, discussions whose level is extremely low and whose purpose is one big question mark.

that's how you learn …. Interested and asking and also arguing.
Well? Where are all the scholars who are able to argue for months about interweaving without understanding even one bit of information in the field? (like any other topic that is published of course)
